Logi Formula Force & N3 - disappointing effects?

by Jeff Jone » Fri, 01 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I picked up the Logitech Formula Force last night, and I was pumped to try
it in N3, since the force fx were excellent with my MS FF stick. While the
car was definitely easier to drive with the wheel, the force fx were
disappointing. There was a period of several minutes where I even wondered
if FF were even turned on at all.

Is there any way to increase the force fx in N3? In my win98 control panel,
all the force sliders are set to 100%, and the test fx are great. Also the
fx in my other games are far better than N3.

you don't have the latest Logitech drivers installed. The new driver (v3.25 I
believe) for one thing allows you to set forces up to 150%.

Jan.

PS: you can check for a new driver update from within the profiler: It'll
check automatically on the Logitech site whether you're up to date!

You need to change the .ini file settings.  Check the readme.txt for N3 to tell
you how to do this.

Ligitech is a great wheel, just dosn't have the same FF feel in N3 as say......
Viper.....

Be sure to select the UPGRADE SOFTWARE option in the Logitech
START menu. You need version 3.20. Then you can crank everything
up to 150%. I have Overall and dampening set to 130% while spring
is set to 100%.

I should point out that Nascar cars have power steering. So the
real cars may not have as much force as you might otherwise think.
I find the effects with the Logitech wheel to be among the very best.

So if the power steering pump goes, you should have to really work the wheel :-D

Just thinking out loud, I doubt if they implemented it.

This is some info on force feedback settings taken from the readme file of
Nascar3

FORCE FEEDBACK VARIABLES

Users with force feedback devices can tune the forces by adding the
following two variables to their N3.INI:

FORCE_SCALE_PERCENT n
FORCE_DAMPING_PERCENT n

Both can be set to the range of 0-200 and will scale the existing parameters
accordingly.  Force Scale is used to determine how strong a force is, and
can be used to try to adjust the amount of force the game provides.  Force
Damping is a factor in determining how much resistance the wheel provides to
turning.  It would primarily be used to decrease the tendency of a wheel to
oscillate under certain
conditions.

Thanks. My wheel was fresh from the factory I guess, because it came with
the 3.25 drivers. It also has a USB connector (which I'm using) and I
understand some of the previous Logi FF wheels shipped without USB
capability.

Anyway, thanks to you and all who provided info.
