GPL Display Problem

Here's a weird one for you - the answer will probably be so simple I'll be
hugely embarrassed (but that's usual so no problem).

GPL had been on my system for years but I rarely use it now. It has
sounds/cpu/bandwidth/3D fixes on it and has for ages. I've used a Radeon
9200 set at 1024x768 in D3D for the last year or so. Last race with this
setup was a few months ago in Jan's French league - all was well (except for
the result).

I fired up this morning and when I go to the driving screen, all I get is a
small box of a display in the upper left corner. This happens at all
resolutions except 640x480. Absolutely nothing has changed on my system with
the exception of the ATI drivers (now 4.7). N2k3 and F1C run as usual. GPL
does allow me to switch to 1024x768 so I assume the monitor (reported as
plug and play) reports the correct allowed resolutions.

I'm really stumped on this one - any ideas?

Some Ati drivers work better with gpl than others, and this is probably
the reason for the problem. Have a google at this newsgroup or look on
RSC for tips about the best Ati drivers to use, I've got nVidia cards so
I can't help sorry.

Alternatively have a look in your core.ini for the following line:

[ Rasterizer ]
fullScreen = 0

If it's set to 0 (like mine) try it set to 1, if it's at 1 try 0 to see
if it works in a window. Note that if you join a race via vroc it'll be
full screen anyway so this may be of limited use.

Follow up (thx for the reply Malc):

I don't have a very fast system and have always had AA turned off. I thought
I'd give it a try at 2x for N2k3. It made a very noticeable difference with
minimal famerate hit - I was chuffed :)

So I thought I'd go back and work on my GPL problem. Damn thing now worked.
I turned AA off again and sure enough I just got a little box at top left -
turned AA on again and it works fine at 1024x768. Go figure.

I have no idea what's going on but clearly there are issues with GPL and the
latest ATI drivers on my system. 2x AA makes the menus in GPL a little funny
but just about readable. At 640x480, I get artefact lines top and bottom of
the letterbox but at 1024x768 it works just fine. I'm not sure how switching
on 2xAA has fixed a problem with GPL that never existed for me before the
latest drivers but I'll take what I can get ;)

I also had problems with latest drivers for my 9200.  cleaned out drivers,
reinstalled old and all well again.

FWIW GPL runs fine on my rig using 4.6 CATs in D3D with a 9500 and both AA and
AF on (except for a thin line along the edge of letterbox at some tracks). The
TPTCC mod also seems to work well, though I've only turned a few laps. Haven't
tried F1C since installing the 9500.

Oops just read the post again... GPL also works well with AA and AF off. :-)
