1) Is there a way to display the speed in the 'cockpit' view, like the
outside view, or like s in Nascar 2? (an alternative might be guages that
you can read)

when in the 'outside' view.
You can't see your speed in the***pit view... they didn't input it because
they really wanted to create full realism while in the***pit view, or the
same thing that a 1967 Formula1 driver would see in his helmet.
Hmm that's a good question... If you mean the text in the black part...
racing in a lower resolution could be a solution. As for making it bigger...
I think it would really mess up the whole structure (it would increase all
the text in the replay menu, etc..) . From what I remember it's all located
in the font.dat file in your GPL game.
