There is truth to both of the above statements.  I believe your comment
because it happened to me.  I borrowed my teammates setup and couldn't
stay out of the wall.  On the other hand, it sure does come across as
being arogant.  Explain yourself a bit more.  I understand, but I doubt
everone else did.

I'd say they almost all are.  Not necessarily top-secret, just personal.
I've been handed some good setups only to take them to the boneyard as I
found them undrivable.

And to tag someone with a limited schedule as being 'lax' or begging
isn't a cool thing.  Honestly, the magic isn't in the car nor is it
supposed to be.  It's in how the driver drives it.

And at other places.  Of course we don't hand out the setup until AFTER
the race either.

Ok, I'm starting to post my setups and I propose the following header
format of:

<chassis><tire><track> where
Chassis = LU, PO, TH
tire = GY, HO
Track = <track name>

I'm not bothering to post them encrypted, just the settings in plain
text.

Remember..Your Mileage May Differ!!!

Oh boy, I'm really in trouble, they called me and laughed
like hell in the phone and asked me to quit
sending dipshits to the customer support dept.

DC> : "Read the manual", "Practice", etc is NOT very constructive!
DC> B-)

DC> I never say read the manual, I never used it and don't think it's
DC> too helpful. But, dude, if you want to go fast w/o putting in any
DC> practice, you're totally fooling yourself. How do you think we ALL
DC> go fast, from PRACTICE!

You might not have, but some do! My comment was aimed at those who (like
me) post questions for help/instruction in faster driving and set-up
techniques - ie those trying to learn the game hoping for some help from
those who've gone before.

I practice - of course I practice! But if I thought that was the _only_
solution I wouldn't be reading this conference, I'd be practicing!
Drivers go to race schools for instruction, they go testing and discuss
telemetry/visual data with other people to get ideas on how to
change/improve things at their next practice. THATS what I/we are doing!

If you can help, I'd be very grateful. If you can't or won't, that's
fine, but please, as I said, either offer constructive advice or just
let it lie.

If someone can't get ICR to work with their modem, or wants advice on
optimal settings for OS/2, I hope people wouldn't reply with comments
like "try all the settings and see what works for you" or "read the
documentation".

I was very impressed by things like the Computer *** World WWW pages
where they discussed setups with practical sessions and some actual
setups for Atlanta and Martinsville. I can't equal their times, but I'm
close, and it's a lot better than the Ace setup. And examing the
differences (and testing them, ie PRACTICING!), has been very
educational.

Once more, I (and others like me) would really appreciate help and
advice - but paranoia or patronising smugness really isn't adding
anything positive.

Cheers!

DC> And to that goof telling me I'm "justifying" not giving away my
DC> setups, I'm not justifying anything; the question was posed, "Hey
DC> why don't you give us your setups", and I gave a clear, strong
DC> supported answer. I can care less if you like my opinion, and it
DC> sure as hell isn't change from your whining.

Why so aggressive? Why all this macho posturing? If all you "fast boys"
are sure that us novices wouldn't be able to handle your setups because
of skill/experience/style diffrences, where's the harm? Then again why
not just discuss the principle rather than the details of your
setup.....my F1GP lap times improved MASSIVELY when I learnt about the
value of a big rear-bias to the brakes on those cars - and I got this
from seing a whole collection of setups and a few "guides".

You know, the REALLY big people out there are the ones who can not only
do it, but know how a bit of advice/guidance can really help a few other
enthusiasts too. Top riders and drivers often give instruction at race
schools you know! If you are THAT GOOD, are rookies like me REALLY going
to be any threat to your apparent wonderfullness??? B-)

Cheers!

At the risk of sounding foolish ( I am just learning the game myself now)
if one has the varying weather on, what do you do?  do you have to
get a setup for each type of weather?

I've not noticed a big difference with the variable weather
turned on.
in reality, a hotter track could make the car slip more because
the track is slippery and the tires don't get such a good grip. My theory
says make the suspension a bit softer. Kinda like rain driving.
Try less stiff shocks when it gets real hot.

This sounds interesting - any idea where I could get a look at this
(I'm in the UK if that matters by the way). Is it a short article you
could scan and post for any/all of us to see? Could you summarize it if
it's huge?

Sure, your credability was shot a long time ago.
I think everybody should keep forwarding offensive messages from you to

of reading it... no more laughing.

whatever

Uh.... yo ***,
you're the ***ER who sent the ***ING finger ***ING ascii art to
individuals via email who never had THE chance NOT to read it if they are
offended with such material.
GO *** YOURSELF if you already haven't because there is a difference
between expressing yourself and forcing an expression on someone. I have
no problems with you 'expressing' yourself but use some sense and put a
warning. Give the recipient a chance NOT to look at it.

For all those who found this offensive, I apologize.
