F1 Challenge availability is ridiculous

Howdy,
Does anyone else think that the availability for F1 Challenge, which is
non-existent, is ridiculous? I know the sim went out of production a while
ago, but come on, they're nowhere to be found. I'm always hoping it'll show
up in a $9.95 box set with other games that nobody wants anymore, but so
far, nothing. I've searched numerous stores and I only found it once for
$19.95 at Fry's but didn't buy it and when I finally went back to the store
to pick it up it was gone. I checked EBay and of course $50 is the going
price.

In a world where I can still find games that are over 10 years old in stores
I can't understand why I can't seem to find this relatively unwanted game in
any bargain bins. If it was so damn popular when it first came out then EA
would have tried harder to win over the FIA to have a share of the game
licensing instead of giving it to solely to Sony. Instead EA must have
produced maybe 2000 copies worldwide and now we're all relegated to looking
all over the world via the Internet to find a single copy and need to pay
premium prices (sometimes more than when they were new) when we do find it.
Absolutely ridiculous.

I had a devil of a time finding it.  Finally picked it up at Electronics
Boutique for $19.95, in some podunk town I just happened to be driving
through.  It's a find product, too bad it isn't distributed better.

I've been trying to find a copy for a few months now, with no luck yet.  It
is a bit odd that they did such a poor job of gauging the supply and demand
balance.

I don't know,

I found it at a Best Buy in Chicago about a month or so ago for $9.99.
They had a couple copies on the shelf, mismarked at $19.99.  Just keep
looking.

6 months ago I saw this sim in every large overhead electronics store.(along
with N2003)
Then, when you finally want it, it disappears.
I always try holding on until there is a price drop, but its usually too
late.
I got lucky with F1C a month ago, finding it new for 19.99 in Staples, and it
was their last copy.
They have not received new copies since.
N2003 was another story.
Ebay for $31.00 US
I don't care though, its worth the price. :-)

US buyers,  I put a copy up on Ebay today.  I got for my online teammate
but he had to attend to real world issues.  New in box.

Yeah I sent an email to EA Sports asking them if they were going to do
a cheapo re-release, which they usually do with most of their sports
titles, but I haven't heard back from them.

For example, at the local CompUSA they have a $9.95 jewelcase rack and
F1 2002 is there...along with most of the other 2003 EA titles
(Madden, NASCAR Thunder, etc.)  But we still haven't seen the cheapo
F1 99-02...wonder why?. Maybe you should visit the EA Sports web site
and send them another email?  If they keep hearing there is some
demand, they may reissue it.

In the meantime, if you want the full retail version, the gohastings
Web site would seem to be one of the few places that still offers it
at a reasonable price.

Yes.  I was lucky and bought it the day it came out (had it on
pre-order) but can't believe how hard it is to find now.

http://www.Amazon.ca/ lists it as "Usually ships in 1-2 weeks".  It's
$34.99CDN.

http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008LUMT/qid=1081961256/sr=1-...

Another site to try is http://www.gametz.com/.  It's the Game Trading
Zone.  Tons of people post their available and wanted games.  It's a pay
membership now but I think a 1 or 2 month membership is only $5.  I've
gotten a few older/hard-to-find titles from there.  Just noticed that
they offer a free 4-week trial membership.

Just checked and there's 1 F1C available.  Sometimes people forget to
remove a game after they sell/trade it so you have to take the listings
with a grain of salt.

Is this related to the loss of the F1 license?

I hate thieves as much as anyone.

But, is there a time when a sim is no longer availbale
through retail outlets, and the original distributor is no
longer making any money off of it, when it becomes ethical
to burn a copy for others?

...

Staples? Now that's funny.  Around here the Staples don't carry much
in the way of sims/games...although I DID score a retail copy of Viper
Racing at one a couple years back for $10, when I was first checking
it out.  Glad I got it too!

Interesting...Best Buy and CompUSA here both still have retail boxes
of NR 2003 for $9.95 on their shelves here

I never saw F1C for that cheap around here, though, or else I would
have grabbed it!

Legally, it's NEVER ethical.  Realistically, you have to deal with your own
conscience...

Hey, I just thought of something.  GPL was available in Office Depot stores for
a long time.  Maybe they have F1C as well?

Gentleman if you can find them buy them. EA has lost the F1 license deal to
Sony, so don't expect a new F1 game for some time and any possible add on
mods for some time after that. We all know Sony's past in the racing sim
market. F1C is as good as it gets for the foreseeable future. I got to thank
the guy that pointed out Go Hastings here. I bought all they had. As for the
50.00 at ebay, that's cheap considering they have gone for as high as
100.00. I don't feel bad selling my 8.99 copies at 50.00 each. Capitalism at
it's greatest! Whatever the market will bear and I have to get a new PCI
express setup this summer  this will keep my wife out of the equation.
