which allows players to submit their best lap times, using a standard car
set-up - so as to achieve a level playing field. Nobody is supposed to
benefit from an expertly well set-up car configuration.
Anyway, both myself and my 10-year old boy have been playing this - I don't
use driver assistances - he does, except for Brake point help - which he
only uses when approaching difficult corners - watching him keep the foot on
the gas pedal and only hitting F3 near corners is quite amusing.
We'd been thrashing around Monaco for days - we think we were getting pretty
good at it too - with lap times in the low 1:23s.
However, with the standard game, and using a few tweaked car setups - gear
ratios and wing settings mostly - we can get below 1:20 most laps.
My question is - how the ***y Hell does anyone manage to lap at 1:09
??!!?? - see the top lap times on the EA site, especially with a ***car
setup given to you by EA.
I've watched a VCR file of a 1:17 submitted with an excellent set up by Ian
Bell, (available at www.bhmotorsports.com) and can see the techniques used
to reach these times - but I do not beleive that it is possible to get round
in 1:09 unless they've fiddled with the standard spec of the cars.
I understand you can further edit the cars' performances with various
utilities available, directly modifying phisics models - but surely with the
Alpha-Numeric keycode you need to submit to EA on presenting a hot lap,
there should be some security check to spot cheats.
Anyway that's my 2p's worth.
Don't flame me - I'm probably [compared to some you you guys] just a ***
race driver anyway!
I would be interested to hear from genuinely fast racers, and to see a VCR
file of their performance round Monaco.
Off to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to practice for next weekend's race. Have a
good one.
