I've been using the superb (but expensive) Ultimate Per4mer from SC&T since
April, and all I can say is... amazing!

Check the Act labs Force Rs, It's beautiful, and the force version is
shipping now!...

The non force fersion is already sold since a wile, and got some 100/100
ratings
from console magazines...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

From the games domain:

Act Labs new line of racing wheels are some hot looking
peripherals.
The RS series are sets of racing wheels and pedals with or without
force feed back which will work with a multitude of platforms. The
non-feedback version, the RS, will work with PCs, Sony
Playstation,
Nitendo 64, and Sega Saturn right out of the box. The more
expensive,
but more exciting version, the Force RS, features Immersion Corp's
I-Force technology and programmable feedback effects. Current
force
feedback compatible titles such as Andrette Racing, F1 Racing
Simulation, Need for Speed II, Redline, Ultimate Race and others
provide force feedback for tight turns, bumpy roads and
collisions.

Other features include: ***ized steering wheel overlay, 11
programmable functions on wheel face, each button is 16 in 1 Hyper
Programmable, 2-way F1 style programmable gear rocker, non-tip,
                    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
no-slippage pedal base design, unique cartridge system, and an
      interesting clamping system.

If THIS does not sound hot....

Which is the best Force feedback wheel????

by YUBS » Tue, 13 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I've pre-ordered one, and am just waiting for it to come in. Hopefully I'll get in
under the first shipment :) About the only thing that worries me is the fact that
(I don't think anyway) it isn't a dual axis controller (Steve, anyway that you
could look into "fixing" the act labs wheel like you did the T2? please?). The
thing is though, not that many games support dual axis control (outside of the
hard core sims anyway) and I play a lot of game from a lot of genres. Not to
mention the cartridge technology!.. man, its about time someone thought that up
:). I think they're shipping them to people on the 24th so I have to wait (ahhh,
GPL comes out on my birth day and I have to wait for my dang wheel.. the torture,
the pain). I've been using my CH Force FX (ya... I know) and getting ok lap times
(but I'm not that good anyway so I haven't had ANY success on the GP car... man
that thing is a beast). In GP3 the closest I've got to the 1:23.21 of dave mansell
is 1:26.75... not bad for a joystick, but I won't even tell you my GP2 time for
fear of ***... I'll just say its a little under 10s off the record...
Anyway, judging from the raving reviews, I can speculate that this is gonna be a
kick ass product... can't wait, get yours NOW!

Didn't get a good rating in PC Games.  (C-)  I know, not everyone
believes what they read in the reviews.  One quote was..
"You can imagine how disqusted I was when this wheel's flimsy little
shifter-levers broke off before I even plugged in the gameport cable."
The review also said the wheel had a nice feel, but the main complaint
was the buttons, levers and D-pad all felt like cheap plastic.
It does have the best set of pedals in the industry.  (according to
this review)
(Pc Games, page 159 November issue)

I can't imagine how the shift lever could be broken.  It's not
at all flimsy, and is tucked in between the wheel and the
dashboard of the base.  Sounds like the reviewer did something
really out of the ordinary.

At least on the non-force RS, the buttons could have a bit more
of a positive feel, but they work fine, and definitely don't
feel cheap.  The D-pad is fine.

The pedals are comfortable.  I've been telling ACT that they
need split axis support - not sure if it's been added yet
though.

Well, I can't account for PC GAMES (hmmm almost reminds me of that HIGH
quality mag...) and there incident but I'll direct your attention to a
few
other sources which in contrast give the RS 100% (or damn near close):

http://www.psillustrated.com/hr_al_rs.html
http://www.videogamers.com/n64cp/REVIEWS/ACCESSORY/ACTLABSRS/1.htm
http://www.digital-ages.com/dao/reviews/n64/actlabs.htm
http://psi.simplenet.com/hardware/actlabsrs.shtml
http://www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/index.html
There is one more but the link is down, refer to the act labs web site
for
more details:

http://www.actlab.com

Surely all these people can't be wrong. 6 to 1 are pretty good odds.
Hmmm
are you sure your not talking about a different wheel? Well whatever,
I'm
not about to go pick a fight with anyone, but based on the previously
mentioned reviews, I can't see how PC Games could come up with such a
drastically different view. To each his own :)

Sorry about the rediculous amount of posts... it wasn't my fault I swear, I

sending the same thing about (what 7 times? *shudder*) I hate it when
people do that so I feel real sheepish....
