A new Dell, Win95, and a ECCI??????

A new Dell, Win95, and a ECCI??????

by Jeffrey Lipac » Sat, 27 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Last week, I got my new Dell.  A 300MHZ PII.  When I first got the
computer, I tried and tried to disable the joystick port on the SB AWE64
card, so I could install a dedicated game card.  After trying every
thing I could think of and after asking for help on ras, I finally gave
up and started running from the sound card.  I also downloaded
Thrustmaster's propanel utility.  After that I was able to configure my
ECCI wheel/pedal system to work in Nascar2, GP2, and ICR2 (but I run
those in DOS mode).  I also have Road to Indy and CPR, but I cant my
ECCI system to work with those games.  With Road to Indy, I can steer
ok, but my brake pedal acts as my gas pedal and vice versa.  I've tired
to reconfigure my ECCI several times, with no luck.  With CPR, I can't
even get the car to move.  I think I can shift gears, but I can't steer
and the pedals won't work.... If anyone has any ideas on how to get a
ECCI wheel to work within Win95, I would greatly appreciate the help.  I
would really love to get it working, especially with GPL coming out in
the next year!!!

Thank you,

Jeff Lipack

Go to the joystick control panel and remove ALL the devices
listed...

Place the new configuration for your wheel using "Race Car
Controller" or 2-axis, 4-button joystick and calibrate as usual.

All should work great.

Cheers!

Yeah, I have the same problem....I have a GP-500 proto-type.....(same as
F1-SIM). The problem with CPR -CART is that it is W95 only.....and
relies on the W95 controller set up!  This will not operate with
seperate gas and brake axis (i.e. 3 axis control).  The gas and brake
pots have to be 'ganged' togeather, ala joystick.  Unfortunately, until
M$ or CPR sort this out, our exspensive wheel/pedals assm's won't work
with W95 s/ware.You could try a modification to switch your gas/brake
pots into a series/ganged configeration!  Is it worth the bother?

Dave - doesn't your GP500 already have a switch to convert between single
& dual axis pedals?

i have the same pedals and wheel, i called ecci and you have to change
your pedals around internally along with using thrustmaster converter.
they will sell yu converter if yu need one they also will send yu the
instructions , i got the instructions and said***it because i can
use the pedals in most the games i want.I play nascar2 in win 95 no
problem f1gp no problem screamer2  need speed 2se  all from win 95  cart
tracing has a reverse pedals inside the game itself so thats not a
problem. i also use a gravis pro and the utility that comes with it has
a thrustmaster setup with and without converter i use without on all
can only use 2 buttons though

                hope this helps

Hmmm a few posts earlier I replied we should cut down on sarcasm during
the post holidaze...but KEEEEEEERAAAAAAPPPPPP!!!!!   if you think I'm gonna
help you and your PII ECCI problems...well mister you've got another thing
comming..
  oh alright..
go to the thrustmaster site.
there they will explain how to get the joystick card to work in a plug and
play world.  Basically completely remove all SB drivers turn off the system,
Take the SB  OUT of your dell PII box...put the ACM card in.  reboot.
configure the acm card shut down.  replace the SB in the box.  reboot
..after the drivers have all been loaded.  You may have to deal with a
resource conflict or two..but the TM site explains that as well...
as for the ECCI...............I can only offer help with a T2 cuz dat's what
I gots....
and a 586-100 vlb dinosaur....  nitey nite!
