Buying a New Dell

Buying a New Dell

Well, looks like this week I'm going to buy a new computer, another
Dell..

Looking at a new Dell XPS R450 Mhz.
Don't know enough about the components as to their actual worth of
getting. I predominately run a Turbo Cad and a 3d Modeler program as the
primary function of the machine.. The Modeler made the current P120
stop!

I was wondering how good/bad the STB nVidia TNT 30 AGP video card is..
Not and expert here and I don't believe that it will be better than any
voodoo cards, but is it a good building base?

Thanks
Ric

Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 450 with the TNT card, it's great ! This machine will have
you going for quite a while. It's very powerful However, I can recommend you
to complement with a voodoo card for compatibility reasons ....

Rick,

I am awaiting delivery of the dell XPS450 with the STB nidivia TNT card.
I ordered it last Thursday and it shipped on Monday, but I haven't recieved it yet.
I will reply back when I do.   By the way I also purchased an STB Black Magic Voodoo2
card to go along with the TNT card

If you're planning on getting a large monitor and running it in high
resolutions for your CAD & modeling apps, then you may want to go give

I run a 21" NEC at the moment... I have a P120 Dell with a 1MB Number 9 video
card.. Adding that monitor made the computer SLoooow down also... (Was just
going to get a new video board for the computer.. Like 8MB or so...)  The sounds
would happen and then finally the screen would move.. A F5 refresh is seen as a
wave down wht screen...  That was a big change over the 17"..

On the 21'st, I'll have the new one and I'm certain that it will Fly compared to
the old one..

Thanks
