N2/Win 95/T2 wheel

You must have Win95 OSR2 (ver 4.00.950B).  Apparently Microsoft made
some change that makes it impossible for some people to use a T2 in
Nascar2 when run through this version of Win95.  Interestingly enough I
too have this version, but my wheel works fine.  Papyrus is trying to
figure out what about my system allows for it to work.

Well I plucked down $200 for Nascar 2, an ACM game card,
and a Thrustmaster T2.  However after many hours of fiddling
with my setup and an hour on the phone to both Sierra and
Thrustmaster, I am still unable to get my T2 to work in N2
through Win95.  The T2 calibrates great in windows but when
I try to cal. it in the game the pointers are stuck to the far left.
Thrustmaster says it's a problem with the way N2 uses direct
X in Win95.  Sierra says they are attempting to fix this problem
but that they aren't sure if they'll ever be able to solve the prob.
The game works great in DOS, but I have a winmodem and
have to play in Win95 if I want to play against real people.  Why
do they state on the box "Win95/Dos- supports wheel w/pedals",
when this is obviously not the case.  Sierra says a wheel without
pedals works through Win95 fine.  Has anyone had any luck with
getting this to work???  Until then I'm somewhat patiently waiting
for a patch from Sierra.

I also am running OSR2 and have absolutly no problem at all with running my
T2 and Nascar 2 or Gp2 through Windows.  The only problem that I have is my
T2 won't work when connected to Kali or Khan, but works fine modem to modem
or offline racing.

I am also using OSR2 BTW!

First off N2 does not use DirectX. It is a Dos game with a WIN95 install! I
have a GP1 with T2 pedals(ACM game card) and it works great with win95 and
DOS! I'm not really sure what your exact problem is but I wanted to tell
you it does work! So don't give up your quest for perfection! Knowing more
about your system would help!

A little update now, today I bought a Soundblaster AWE-32, and tried the T2
hooked to it, same problems. Then tried disabling the sound card joy. port,

and put my ACM game card back in.  Now when I boot the system it takes
like 3 minutes for it to boot and finally get to windows.  And then n2
still
doesn't see my t2 correctly.  I took the ACM and put it in another slot,
still
booted slow.  Then took the ACM out and the system was at normal speed
again.  It seems it doesn't like my AWE-32 very well.  I also have tried
v1.5
of the sidewinder pad installation from Microsoft like someone had said, it
didn't work.  I tried selecting "No Joystick", "Custom", "2 axis 4 button
joystick", and I even hooked my regular stick up, all to no avail.  So N2
isn't
seeing any type of controller correctly in Win95.  On the upside, audio is
much better with my new sound card.  Whoopeeeeeeee.  Now I saw
something about buying a Y adaptor cable, which will be step #432, which
I will attempt tomorrow if I can find one in a store on the way home from
work.  Oh, I have Win95 OSR1  .950a  NOT b.    So what gives???  I can't
recall ever having problems of this extent with any other sim.  But I guess
when it's all working I'll be a better man for it.  Yeah right.

I also ran OSR1 95a and had no problems.  What I have done is tell the
windows joystick in control panel that I have NO joystick connected to the
computer.  I ran into a problem when installing my Sidewinder pro game pad
that when I setup the custom joystick as a race car controller it wouldn't
recognize it when playing through windows.  Now I just tell windows that I
have no joystick and it works fine.  I bought a Y adapter just to have an
extenion for the T2 and Sidewinder so I didn't have to move the computer
all the time but neither would work because it was 15 pin like the stick
but all 15 wires didn't go from end to end.

Good luck sounds like mess,

I've also tried setting the joystick to "none" in the control panel.
Didn't make any difference for me unfortunately.  I think I've tried
just about everything including the "Y" cable today.  I guess I'll
have to keep playing in Dos for now.  Thanks though.

I have the Thrustmaster Grad Prix 1 which has levers that perform the same
functions that the pedals do.  I configured Nascar 2 as if I had 2
joysticks attached and it works great.  They did include an adapter that
make all of the inputs come in on joystick 1 if you game card requires it.

Hey Brian,
Sierra told me that the GP1 works in Win95, and for some reason
the T2 doesn't.  But I've tried just my regular joystick and it didn't
work either.  I have a newer T2 that doesn't require an adaptor, and
it has both cables (from pedals/wheel) come together prior to going
into just one joystick port.  I'm out of options now, I've tried every
thing I and others could think of.  Just must be a problem with the
way N2 reads the joystick data.  Thanks for your suggestions
though!  Cya

it.
