t2 and win 95? Thrustmaster help?!?!!!

by bmoor » Tue, 01 Apr 1997 04:00:00

I have recently gotten a game that requires you to play in win95
(monster truck madness).  But, for some reason, when i try to set my
steering wheel (my t2) in the joystick icon in control panel, it says
device not working properly.  Yet, when i have my same t2 in same port
playing in dos, it works great.  Also, works great on kali.  Also,
when i plug my microsidewinder 3d into the same port, it works fine.
The port is on my dedicated game card, and has always performed fine.
I have tried this with the converter too, but still nothing.

Any ideas?

You have to go into the control panel and configure the T2 (with the
adapter) as custom, two axes, four button joystick with special
features; a race car controller. Then you need to calibrate it.  They
have a better explanation in your T2 docs or at the Thrustmaster
website.

Sorry, I don't know what else to tell you. I'm using a MS Sidewinder
gamepad which adds it's own shortcut to *** devices. It should setup
up other devices the same as in the Windows 95 control panel but we may
be talking apples and oranges here.  BTW, just got Interstate 76 today
and have played it a few hours.  A decent game.  I've read in this ng
that some people can't get their T2's to run properly in I76. The T2
works fine in I76. Once more, visit the Thrustmaster website for better
and more detailed instruction re setting up the T2 to run under Windows
95. Good luck.

This is what ive been trying to do....it wont let me in to callibrate,
or to test the wheel.  I used the converter too.  Again, no luck.
It tells me that the device isnt working properly, yet it works fine
in dos....Any other ideas?

I had the exact problem, look in Device Manager under Sound and Game
Controlers. If you have anything but Gameport Joystick remove it and Add New
Hardware, choose Sound and Game Controlers, then select Microsoft as the
company, then Gameport Joystick. That should do the trick. I had Creative
Gameport Joystick listed under Device manager and Win95 wouldn't detect it
either, switching the driver to microsoft fixed it for me.. Hope this helps.

Make sure your T2 is set as device 1.   I had my MS gamepad set as
device 1 and the T2 as device 2 and it told me the T2 wasn't connected.
I assigned the T2 to device 1 and it worked!

Actually, even if you show a gameport joystick installed, remove it then
Add new hardware as explained above.  That's what it took for me.

The T2 docs also state you need the adapter in Win95.  You don't.  My T2
didn't COME with an adapter(I blame Best Buys), but I tried with my T1
adapter, which I assume is the same thing.  It didn't work.  I removed the
adapter, and it works fine.  I'm also running my T2 through a JoySwitch, I
don't know how that affects the signal.  But it WORKS, and I'm NOT going to
tempt fate to find out :)

Check your number on the underneath of your t2.  I cant remember the
exact numbering, but if it is below a certain number you have to use a
converter.  If it is above this same number, the converter is built
in, and you dont need it.  If you go to the thrustmaster page, they
have it listed somewhere on there what the cut off is.  All I know is
mine is #960306, and it needs one, which I did receive.  Also, if you
didnt receive one and you need one, it says on one of the sheets that
came with the t2 to call for a free one at (503)968-3411.  Since yours
works without you connecting one, I would assume that you bought a
recent enough one that it is built in.
