Thrustmaster T2 won't stay calibrated, help!

by Jo » Sun, 08 Feb 1998 04:00:00

My Thrustmaster T2 wheel won't stay calibrated for more than five
minutes (tried calibrating with both the standard conrol panel and T2
ProPanel).

It calibrates fine, and works fine for a few minutes, but then it
ALWAYS starts drifting to the right. When I go back into the
calibration test it shows the wheel off-centered, and it happens in
all games (so it's definitely a wheel/calibration problem, not a
problem with a particular game). The gas and brake stays centered, but
the wheel always drifts.

What could cause this? What can I do about it? It's an old wheel (2-3
years), but has fairly new pots and springs.

This might not be the case, but it sounds like there is a hardware problem,
not software.  maybe it would be worth the time to take the wheel apart and
see if something is loose inside.

Is it just the wheel?  Are you losing calibration of the pedals also?
Does this happen with a joystick?  It could be that your gameport is
starting to flake out.  It sounds like thermal drift.

I have the same problem, on a wheel less than 1 year old. I do not
believe it is mechanical, since the loss of calibration is also
reflected in the Windows gameport/controller calibration are After it
drifts..but not before. Naturally, e-mail to the Thrustmaster help page
drifts into ***space and disappears.

I have heard of the pots coming loose and drifting around in T2s.  There is
a site that specialized in fixing T2 problems that mentioned it.  I believe
the fix was to wire it in place.

I think the three possibilities are covered in the above posts.
1. heat induced drift in the gamecard
2. pot working loose in the wheel
3. spray cleaner

Let me know if you need more...
