LAN and internet game modes now allow up to twelve players. Improved wheel
force feedback.

I gave the BTCC Silverstone circuit a try. On the straight, the steering
sloths around like a drunken Hippo. Get within 50 meters of a corner and
suddenly the same input will turn the car into a flea with a rocket up its'
backside. When out-braking an opponent into a corner, a large steering
input is needed to change position on the straight and then I need to
_reduce_ the input to go around the corner. Codemasters needs to urgently
patch this steering issue, to take away the console-style steering help in
corners and to add linear input for wheels.
I appreciate Codemasters getting this first patch out so quickly but surely
the most important issue is to make the game playable?
By the way, for those who may think I am an arcade hater, I have just
installed NFS Hot Pursuit 2. It is advertised as an arcade racer, plays as
an arcade racer and I am really enjoying it. A game will never be a true
simulation of the driving experience but if it claims the title of 'sim',
there should at least be some remote attempt at it.

There seems to be a direct relation between power and steering.
Plus alot of people have found a very good steering compromise after alot of
indepth trial and error.
Its not perfect,it never will be but a hell of alot of people are eating
humble pie right now.

Huh?
Huh again??
Uh huh....and I and others don't buy games to beta test them. That's
supposed to be part of the R&D money which adds to the price. Now.....if
they want to pay me to beta test......then that's different. BUT they're
NOT!!!
No humble pie here and I'll be d&mned if I'm going to spend several hours
tweaking steering settings for something that should work out of the box.
This one does NOT.
Remember Ford Racing? I and many others could NEVER get that game to
properly recognize a MSFF Wheel. I even emailed Infogrames and received
several responses from the supposed head of development for that title. His
final and last response was more or less it works for us....you're on your
own. They never released a patch (that I saw) that fixed it so it would
properly recognize that wheel. Looks like the same situation with
TOCA......unless someone at Codemasters accepts responsibility (now there's
a concept in reality) and fixes the problem.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.
You just contradicted yourself there, sunshine.
And just how many PC games have you bought that worked "right out of the
box" ?
Having a lot of fun online.
Huh? BTW: Ford Racing was returned for a refund due to those problems and
the responses I received.
The vast majority of the games I have purchased have worked fine for my
needs "right out of the box." Those that didn't were returned which included
Ford Racing, the LeMans stuff, and now TOCA.

The vast majority require patches and constant support.. Especially online
games. So you must have returned an awful lot more than you're saying.

Linear steering please.

Can you give us any pointers?

The trial and error side of it is purely that.I knew it was wrong from the
off so i didnt bother with it seriously until the patch arrived. Then i
looked in the hardware config and saw a few extra items,if you experiment
with these you will find that Codemasters actually have made some efforts
here.
The conclusion to all this is 56k modem chosen for better online performance
regardless of your net connection speed.Unlucky people can be capped at 64
fps if they have the wrong combination of xp,mobo and nvidia. The steering
rewards you if you move over to Sim mode driving and sim handling
steering, both of these options must be chosen. Then a simple trial and error
in Controllers/Advanced as some like a bigger deadzone than others and with
the saturation point and it just about passes.
From initial bad feelings about this 'game' or more accurately the steering
i have got close to being satisfied but that doesnt mean it doesnt need a
linear patch,it definitely does.

p.s my first post about this was to highlight the amount of foul mouthed
children on the forum in the first week saying it was the worst game ever
who now are not to be seen....why..?Coz they have got a refund...? NO...coz
they are hosting 12 man races in gamespy all night..!!!!
Of course they are.
You're gonna dismiss me, I know.
How can I comment on something I haven't even tried?
I have not tried this nor do I intend to as I have no intention of
spending hours trying to just get the ***y thing driveable. It is,
by reading here, at worst mediocre and at best a pretty fun crossover
title. If I want fun little blasts I'll dig out the Dreamcast and
play play F355 or Daytona. They work "right out of the box".
Fun crossover titles invariably, for me, offer a short term buzz and
end up on the shelf never to be played again. Now, if it was
driveable out of the box and didn't require 150+ fps to run properly
I'd probably try the demo to see if this was a title that broke that
rule. NFS:PU *almost* did - I bought that one on the strength of the
demo.

D'you reckon it's worth it to someone who never liked the other TOCA games?
Which I did try, btw :-)
(Quite enjoyed the original CM Rally - just in case you think I'm being and
anti Codies snob!)
