Tonight was a sad night. On VROC it was as hard if not harder to find a
traditional road course F1 race than the days before dedicated servers :(

The reason for this were that nearly all the servers were running either
empty Oval races or F2 races.

Most of the night only 1/9 or even 0/9 of the good servers were running
these races. When a F1 race at an original circuit did appear, depsite
appaling pings it filled up in just 2 minutes and there were many more
trying to join.

I understand the e***ment for the new ovals and the F2 crazy, put please
don't let these races be at the expense of the traditional races that are
the backbone of online GPL.

I really appreciate the efforts of those who set up dedicated servers for us
all to join, but please I ask that at least a good proportion of these
remain F1 races at original circuits :)

thanks again for providing us with these fantastic servers to race on

Although I was trying to get you to run an oval with us Marc I must say that in
general I agree with you 100%. At this moment 6 out of 10 races are f2 which I
don't care for. I find it quite unbelievable that f3's at a superspeedway  are
so popular. But like all things in life it is "to each his own". So for now we
must persevere regardless of the situation. Don't worry, GPL will maintain it's
glory. Well, back to VROC, Michigan is a blast.

maybe that's why our GGPLC-server is so crowded, especially at the glen
... and I agree with you 100%: more F1 races on the "traditional" tracks
... and I'd love to see the servers running pro races ...

I don't understand what the problem is.
The F2 and F3 races are for the guys who like it.
There is apparently a need for f2f3 hosts. The VROC F2 club, has about
100 members, and there are quite a few leagues out there for f2f3
drivers.
Most of the guys aren't interested in F1
Maybe coz lots of newbies wanna jump right into the F1, with carnage
as result?
Or maybe they just don't like the attitude of the 'pro' F1 drivers...
There are more than enough F1 hosts, there aren't any less since the
ovals arrived too!
GPL online racing is alive, especially since the arrival of F2F3 and
oval servers.
Yesterday (26th) there where 90+ drivers on VROC.

I agree on one thing though: Michigan is a blast; be it in F1, F2 or
F3 !

This isn't the 1st time we went through this. Remember when the beta
from David Noonan came out. Just about every race was a oval for the 1st few
weeks. Then it started to decrease. After a month or so, you had to look
high and low for any oval races. Things will settle down.  But as for F2
racing. You better learn to live with it, because it's here to stay. Great
racing !!

Good reply..agree with you 100%.   F2 's and F3's are here to stay because
people like them.

First of all: We should appreciate the diversity of the GPL community. This
makes it way more interesting and better in terms of longevity.

Then: F1 is pointless, unless you race with the same people every time, and
everybody fully understand how to behave on track. A lot of people don't,
causing carnage and pileups. The F1 cars are so difficult to drive with
discipline. You can't do as much damage in a F2 or particularly F3  car.

And the F2 and F3 communities seem to be more tightly knit groups of people,
knowing each other, knowing the way of driving etc...

I think we'll see more and more 'regulated' races, with password (and the same
bunch of racers every time) and excluded car classes because that is how you get
close, exciting and fast racing.

If it is called F1, F2 or F3, that doesn't matter, the point is that a regulated
race will contain guaranteed good racing action, the public races will be
pestered by people who cannot control their cars...

I am not against ovals, I think it just adds to the diversity of the game. Not
that I will race a lot on ovals, far from it. I like them  from an ideal
perspective...  :-)

I'm willing to listen to the racers on what they want.  My server(s) will be
back up after the 1st(the university is closed now).  I'll try to have a decent
mix of tracks and skill levels.  Feel free to e-mail me with your
opinions/gripes about the servers.  Just be NICE about it. :-)
Maybe I'll set one up for just ovals, and the other for pro races on the F1
tracks...
