On the S3 Virge of a nervous breakdown

Hi People,

Hopefully someone out there can help me. i've got a problem with my new CMR
game setup. It goes a little something like this;

i install from the cd. All the DX6 drivers are installed and all the video
things installs ok. Then it installs CMR and asks for the 3d card, i check
the S3 Virge and carry on.

Then, when i run the game it gets as far as loading the stage (just before
the 'get ready' bit) and then stops and quits back to windows.
The only way i can get it to run at all is by choosing the 'No 3d card'
option, but it runs slowly and looks terrible. (If it helps anyone, i can
change the chipset to all of the options ((Rage, Permedia, etc)) but the
display device won't change from 'Device 0')

i've tried the patch from Codemasters, i've tried all the other chipset
settings and also letting it auto detect the 3d card on installation, but
still no joy.

This is all on a Pentium 200mhz MMX 32mb ram Win95 machine, with an ESS1869
S3 Virge video card.
My monitor is a 17in set at quite a high setting (1028x700), but even
changing it to 640x480 doesn't seem to help.

If someone can help as soon as possible it'd be great as Chrimbo's nearly
over and i won't have much longer to play it before i have to go back to
work !

Many Thanks in advance,
Pedro

My be would be that you S3 Virge isnt a suppored card. If I'm not mistaken. the
virge cards arent open GL, or D3D compatable. I know mine wasnt.

I'm afraid you'll have to buy a decent 3D accelerator card. A 3Dfx
Voodoo 1 would do just fine on you P200, and would'nt be too
expensive.

Need a new video card I am afraid. The S3 Virge will not support any of the
d3d or openGL apps. Also won't work with DX-6 drivers either.

That depends on WHICH Virge chipset you have.  I just shipped one out an
hour ago (Virge GDX) that not only supports DirectX, but includes it on the
CD!
