Remember to get the 3.2 Control Panel also.

I am seriously considering getting an ATI 9800 Pro, but I want to be sure it
works _flawlessly_ before I do.
I was holding out for the nVidia FX Card, but after a year of prodding us
along they delivered an under-whelming card and I'm pissed at them for that.
So be it. My money is as good to ATI as it is nVidia.

Catalyst 3.1 broke the 3D setup in both Nascar 2002 and 2003.
I installed Catalyst 3.2 and here is what I found:
3D setup now works again! ;-)
OpenGL does not look as good as it used to with Catalyst 3.0a and I took
about a 15-20fps hit ;(
D3D now plays much faster and looks better than before. 1024x768 with 2xAA
and 16AF in D3D does not look that good. The AA in D3D looks like ***
compared to the OGL version. Even at 1600x1200 w/oAA, you still see crawlies
on the horizontal painted lines in D3D.
1600x1200 in D3D with noAA and 16xAF plays very fast and smooth. This is the
setting I finally decided on using with Catalyst 3.2.
So Catalyst 3.2 fixes the 3D setup in Nascar 2003, but OpenGL performance is
slower than Catalyst 3.0a. Using Catalyst 3.1 is not an option if you play
Nascar 2002 or 2003.
I don't know if I will keep Catalyst 3.2 and use D3D at 1600x1200/noAA/16xAF
or switch back to Catalyst 3.0a and use OpenGL at 1024x768/2xAA/16xAF. I am
really considering going back to Catalyst 3.0a and OGL because jaggies
seemed less noticeable then, even at 1024x768 wAA as apposed to 1600x1200
w/oAA.
My setup:
MSI K7T Turbo2
512MB PC133 Crucial
Radeon 8500LE 250/275 (stock speed)
DX9
Win98SE
SB Live! Value
I dual boot Win98SE and WinXP. I have yet to even install Nascar 2003 in
WinXP. I got slightly better frame rates with Nascar 2002 in Win98SE over
WinXP so I have been sticking to Win98SE for games (for now).

You can also get the 3.2s from 3DGuru w/o needing to register:

I did the 3.3 hack that is out (the card is now reported as a 9800 and
uses the 3.3 code) and it does work, about a 5-10% 3dmark boost in the pixel
shader tests.

Thanks Bill, I thought that had something to do with streaming video or
something.
BTW, are you the same guy that used to set us up with decal sheets in n2
and n99?
thanks again,
