Catalyst 4.1 drivers - help!!!

by Mark » Mon, 26 Jan 2004 02:34:20

Not related to FSAA, but I installed the 4.1s last night on my machine
(Win98, Radeon 8500), after not having changed my drivers in forever - 2.x
driver, DirX8.1. I updated to DirX9.0b at the same time. Now I'm plagued
with GPL game crashes (illegal operation errors/invalid page fault / stack
dump). I went back to 3.7, but the same thing happens. Any ideas on how to
fix this? Thanks in advance...

It's not the 4.1 drivers. I'm using 4.1 in Win98 and GPL is rock solid for
me. Maybe try this, uninstall the Radeon drivers usinng the utility that
ATI provide on their website to do a clean uninstall, install standard VGA
drivers then install the 4.1 drivers again. You are installing standard VGA
drivers before doing a new install of ATI drivers, right?

Not following you - the system runs on VGA once the drivers are uninstalled,
without installing anything. Anyway, I went back to the 2.5s I used before,
and the same problem exists (now mostly game crash, DDHELP error while
pulling out of the pits at Sachsenring).

And now I have another problem, after all the driver changes and DX update.
My MOMO wheel configuration got wiped out somehow, and the game won't
recognize the pedals to configure them. I've tried everything I can think
of, using different settings in Profiler, split and combined pedals, etc.,
but nothing. I seem to recall that there was a trick to getting them to
work, but what it was I have no idea. So I can't even get out of the pits to
see if the other problem is still there!

Shit...

Goto the logitech teamwingman site and in the gadgets area is a
utility called clear calibration.  (lw_clrs)   Run that, unplug your usb
stuff and re-connect, you should be good then to go into windows
control panel and calibrate, then calibrate ingame as well.

Thanks, Dave - that worked! I was able to assign the pedal to the throttle,
and then actually got the car to travel about five feet before the game
crashed again...
