Rally Simulators?

by Chris Livingston R » Sat, 11 Jun 1994 22:46:19

Are there any rallying simulators available for the PC that anybody knows
of? I mean *realistic* ones, even in the public domain. I have only
played RAC Rally but the driving simulation was far more reminiscent of
Outrun than (eg) Indy; I've read reviews of two others; a Toyota one that
looked like a journey through primary-coloured legoland and one that
needed a 486 to run...

I've got a home made 386-40; Adlib card and no cash. Any ideas? Thanks.

There is Network Q Rally, which came out this year.  I thought it was quite good.
You really do NEED a 486 and sound card to enjoy it (the co-driver speaks the
pace notes with a sound card).  You have your choice of 5 cars, the driving is
from a first-person perspective, and there are various road surfaces and weather
conditions to drive through (the thunderstorms are great).  You can pitch the
cars into the corners and drift them to the outside (sometimes producing a rollover
if you botch it).

Alas, my thesis's voracious appetite for HD space means WRC Rally is back on the
shelf in the box for now.  The only games that really have stood the "get rid of
EVERYthing that isn't necessary" test are WC and IndyCar (minus some of the
less interesting tracks)

What was the Toyota one called?
