Last time I talked to somebody at Ubisoft he said that it wouldn't be until
Spring of 2000, at least.

You have to admit , the graphics are kiking! The shading and tree shadows look
real. Also look at the view that shows the inside of rear of car. You can see
details inside there like seatbeats, etc. Rally Championship is a good one , i
think this will be a better rally game.. time will tell

There is no way by graphics-only somebody can say it will be a superior
title.  Look at all the titles that have failed to their hype compared to
the final product, people will have to stop praising those
"screenshot-preview" or the companies will continue to brainwash us over and
over...

And no this is not about Ubisoft at all, just an opinion about the state of
the community vs. the previews some sites have.  Previews = free publicity,
that's all.  They will give you false information so you keep your attention
on the title.

Though it's never a good idea to judge a game by screenshots
(as ymenard points out), I have to say that the car graphics really
aren't very impressive compared to current releases.  As far as
correct proportions, polygon count, and texture quality go, Sega Rally
2 and Rally Championship 2000 have the Ubisoft game beat.

The foliage and shadows do look really good, though!

Well I will agree with you here ;)

I doubt they are dynamic shadows.  Probably just like GPL at Monaco per
example, where you simply have a surface with a shadow painted on it, or
better, a way to apply a shadow texture over any given surface portion
around the track, whatever it's grass, sand, other trees, hills, etc..  I
speculate after seeing more than those pictures that the second choice seems
the good one.

And that's a good thing, we are getting nearer the dynamic shadows for every
object within it's 3d environment.

Well, you can't judge a book by it's cover as they say, but Ubisoft has done
a fine job with F1RS and F1RS 2, so hopefully this game will be as drivable
as their previous efforts!

I for one am anxiously awaiting it, as Rally 2000 is too dammed twitchy and
sensitive. I know you can move the steering sensitivity full off or down,
but why should you have to, just to make it drivable?

I'm huge on short-throw steering (270 degrees?  try 90!) and  with
MSFF and LWFF wheels steering for me is great a couple notches to the
right of center.  Not twitchy at all and I don't have to turn the
wheel a whole lot for a sharp turn.
