Does anybody know anything about rally simulators?

I've heard (very) vague rumours about Papyrus considering this ... but
more specifically, I've seen a British product called RAC Network
Rally.

Says it has 24 stages, choice of cars ... but other than that, the box
is very unenlightening, and the store I was at wouldn't let you look
inside the shrinkwrap.   Think the publisher was Europress or
something.

I'd love to find a good rally product ... but have a dreadful feeling
this may be yet another Amiga conversion that is cashing on the fact
that there's nothing else around.

Thanks,

Kurt Sanders

Yeah, there's a new game from Silver Lightening Software called Rally
Australia based on the Telstra Rally which forms part of the World
Rally Championship. It's got full-on 3D texture mapping, and as far as
I can see, it's possible to roll your car. The game includes a Toyota
Celica and a Subaru Impreza 555, and probably has all the usuals such
as Escort Cosworths and Mitsubishi Lancers.

Well don't be fooled. It's not 3D, it's not realistic and it's not
fun! The graphics are OK, they were fantastic when it came out, but
the cars feels like it's on rails. The stages feel the same, and the
car nevers feels to be slipping and sliding about so it kills the idea
of a rally sim. The weather changes are quite good, but the computer
cars are appalling.

Not really, it never appeared on the Amiga due to being too 'complex',
but this was even before the A1200 came out and 1 meg was standard.
There is apparently a sequel coming out with 'proper' 3D stuff, but I
don't know any more than that. Sim Racing News seems to know a bit
more of the story with that.

Don't touch it. It is DREADFUL. Check out the home made rally sim at

http://csie.ntu.edu.tw/~b2506046

Its worth a spin..

I reckon, from playing the secret rally level in Need 4 Speed, that they
could make an entire rally game using the same graphics engine, and a
slightly modified simulator engine.. to great effect. A few mods in the
handling department, and a full FAST svga rally game would be ours!!
Anyone agree with me ?????

The rally simulation at above address is pretty fun.
