video card overheating N4

How does one determine if it is the video card overheating or if it is
the CPU. N4 runs multiplayer for about 20 minutes and locks up. The
screen freezes completely.  It only locks up during N4.  I'm running
an AMD 1200 cpu not overclocked and a GE force2 with the latest
drivers not overclocked. Any ideas ?

Get Motherboard Monitor http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ and log your cpu temps
with the interval log if they are under 50c while running N4 you are ok
50-55c is a bit too hot 55+ you definatly need some better cooling, have you
got any case fans? They are a must at 1Ghz +. If that isn't the problem try
underclocking your GeForce a bit, it could also be a memory problem if you
are running your RAM at cas2 try cas3.

Mike,

It's been my experience that when a video card is overheating you
will see anomalies on the screen lines/dots etc, but when computers
completely freeze this is usually a memory problem or an overheating
CPU. In most cases with AMD CPU's it is the CPU. Make sure that you
have a good quality heatsink/fan and that it is mounted properly to the
CPU. Sometime OEM's will use thermal tape between the CPU core and
heatsink for heat transfer. In my opinion this is not a good solution and
you should use a good thermal grease/compound between the two.
A good place to start is www.coolerguys.com for cooling solutions and
they also have a good write up on mounting heatsinks if I remember right.
Also make sure that you have good airflow through you're computer case.
All the CPU cooling in the world doesn't do any good if you don't get the
heat
removed from you're computers case :)

Good Luck, Regards

Could also be a driver issue, are you running it in glide, DirectX, or
other?  I occasionally get lock ups in glide as well, in fact most people I
know can't get 100% reliability out of glide support, so for league they run
directx instead as I do.

Hey,

Are you running the GF2 with 4x AGP? If so, try knocking it down to 2x in
the BIOS. I have the same problem and have never been able to find a
solution to it even though everyone tells me it should work at 4x AGP. Weird
stuff, man.

If you are running on Win2k, install the AGP fix as recommended by AMD on
their web site (sorry can't remember the URL). It stops Win2k from using the
MMU page size extension. It seems their is an issue with this on Athlon
processors. It stopped N4 from random occasional crashes on my Athlon
system.
