GPL and ADSL Problem

by Jaz » Fri, 10 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I finally download the WinVROC and tried to get some online racing. But
I can't seem to get my setup to work: GPL 1.2 patch, WinVROC 2.0, Pac
Bell aDSL connection. I also set alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1. But
still no luck, could someone help me out?!

Thanks in advance,
Jaz

Connections timed out, can't join any race even when WinVROC showed low
Ping times. I have read the FAQ and Troubleshooting sections in VROC,
but still I can't figure out why I can't join any online race... It
can't be that difficult...

So what did you do? Go back to analog modem?

GPL and ADSL Problem

by David Er » Sat, 11 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I had something like this happen to me last January when I suddenly went
from good GPL connects on my dial up to "connection timed out". Never
managed to resolve the issue since I got cable shortly after which cured
that particular problem. At the time I did think that it was either due to
some fiddling I'd done with the MTU settings or that my ISP had done
something to affect the type of packets GPL uses ( can't remember the name
at the moment). Can you connect directly to anyone through the address book
without using WinVROC? Were you able to connect before you got your ADSL
line?

GPL and ADSL Problem

by Jaz » Sat, 11 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I am new to the simracing world and have not raced online at all.
Since, I always had ADSL, I have not tried an analog modem, which I
will install this weekend (got to look in my junk box to dig one out).
But, the problem is sounding more and more like ISP related, perhaps
PacBell has setup a firewall to prevent VROC to connect. I will post my
analog modem trial soon...

Thanks,
Jaz

GPL and ADSL Problem

by Jaz » Sat, 11 Dec 1999 04:00:00

I just spoke with PacBell about their adsl service and was told that
there is no firewall of any sort between me and the Internet. So I
would like to try a few more thing before I give up:

1. connect to an Host IP without WinVROC or JavaVROC, could someone
supply me with a few IP addresses to try?

2. install an analog modem and try to connect the old fashion way,
although this seems like a lousy way to go, even it works...

Any help will be appreciated.

I have Pacbell ADSL, Alcatell 1000 dsl modem, Kingston NIC, using WinVROC, GPL 1.2.0.1
and have no problems racing or hosting.  If you need more info for troubleshooting, let
me know here or email.

Did you remove the semi-colon before alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1?

Not a firewall per se', but they're probably masking your IP.  Try your
question in comp.dcom.xdsl and the gurus there may be able to help you a
little better.

GPL and ADSL Problem

by Jaz » Sun, 12 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Remco,

Yes, the semi-colon is off. GPL correctly picked up my static IP
address, so I don't think the alternate_ip_addr_lookup setting would
make any difference. I saw you trying to join my J.SZE F2 host last
night, but you couldn't get in right? What was the response on your
end, and what ping time was it if you can recall.

Thanks,
Jaz
