GPL ADSL TZO Hosting?

GPL ADSL TZO Hosting?

by Ron Mare » Sun, 02 May 1999 04:00:00

I am running an ADSL service with nat addressing which is a problem like a
firewall.  I use TZO to get around this. It provides with a valid IP
address.  When I host a game and select host I can see two choices for my IP
10.0.0.2 and another IP that is different than the one TZO provides.  I have
tried selecting each one at a time and no luck. Desperate to host a race and
need some help.  Also in my core.ini I have alternate IP etc.  Thanks...

I don't think online racing through NAT is a very wise decision. With NAT,
you're adding excessive overhead for address translation both in and
outbound. This simply will not work for online racing. S***the NAT server
and get the ADSL connection direct to the box that runs GPL, grab a DHCP
address, and you're ready to race!

That's all very well but some ISPs will give you NAT whether you want it or not.
DHCP would obviously be nicer in many ways, but many of us have no choice.
Cheers,
Paul
