GPL and ADSL Problem

by Jaz » Sun, 12 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Alright! I finally solve the mystery of my adsl connection, thanks to
Kenny L., who helped me troubleshoot my system. It turned out there was
nothing wrong with the PacBell ADSL service at all. The problem was
caused by the second NIC in my system, for some reason GPL just won't
work when that was in the system, even if the correct static IP was
selected.

My interim solution was simple: disable the device in Windows. But now
I can't share my ADSL modem with others on my LAN... I know GPL works
with proxy server such as Sygate, as Alison has written about it in her
VROC FAQ. Perhaps, my setting were not acceptable, in the mean time, I
could join and host races, finally!

Thanks for all your advice. And a great big thanks for Kenny ;-) You da
man!

GPL and ADSL Problem

Kenny,

You are quite welcome, you deserver all the credit! Anyway, I did a bit
more digging this afternoon and managed to figure out the problem with
my proxy server for those that care. Here was what happened: Sygate's
built-in DCHP server needed to be disabled (just as Alison said in her
FAQ, why didn't I pick that up earlier?!) and client IP addresses
assigned manually. So here is what it should look like:

ADSL IP = My PacBell IP
Proxy Server IP = 198.162.0.1
SubMask = 255.25.255.240

Now everything works the way it should, I could host and join races
from the gateway machine.
