but if I set the AI strength to 100% then by the end of a test session most
of the AI are doing 1:19's. That's realistic for the Minardi's, not so
realistic for the others. I'm hesitant to turn up the strength any higher
because I think the physics might get unrealistic above 100%. Anyway, they
are running faster than you or I, and that means we can learn something from
them. Their lines are pretty good; when watching the real life qualifying
this morning I only noticed 2 serious differences between what the real life
drivers were doing and what the AI were doing. The real life drivers take a
wider line around turn 2 than the AI and the real life drivers seem to be
able to go flat out into turn 7. Other than that they seem to drive the
same way the AI do. The turn 2 thing I'm going to try next time I get a
chance, but the turn 7 thing I think may have to do with track inaccuracy, I
doubt that it is possible in the game.
Also, I think I had to set
Locked Pit Cam="0"
in the [ Game Options ] section of the player file in order to watch from
the pits. You can watch from the menus but you can't see as much detail.
What I like to do is actually start my test session so that I have a full
screen window and then use "+" and "-" to jump around to the different AI
cars. You can use the PgUp, Home, etc. keys to change views. I usually
watch from the TV***pit view first because from there you can see their
speed and gear choices, which makes it easier to determine where they are
getting on the brakes. This also allows me to see turn-in, apex, etc. in a
view that is close to the player***pit view. Then after I feel like I
understand what they are doing I usually switch to swing-man view (PgUp?)
and use the numeric keypad to adjust it to a view slightly behind and above
the car so I can see how much of the track they are using.
