Ok, another(dumb) question - what does high-frequency physics do?

1:21 is puttering?  Oh MAN - I must be going BACKWARDS...

Eldred, no jibe intended, but you do realise most of the cars have 7 gears
nowadays, right?

There is a distinct possibility that I won't be able to make it.  I'm going
to try, but I have guests this weekend so it is a bit unlikely.

Get your controllers straightened out as mentioned elsewhere in this thread,
it makes a huge difference.  The other thing that made a big difference for
me, but may or may not help you, is that I watch the AI a lot during test
sessions to get an idea where the braking points, apexes, etc. are.  I would
still be in the 1:30's if I didn't do that, for example there is just no way
that I would have figured out how fast the stadium section is on my own.  I
drive the track for a few laps so I know where everything is, then park it
and use the plus key to move through the TV***pit cams for the different
AI drivers.  Make sure you have their strength turned up so they are running
realistic lap times.

But with a 40% race and 5x fuel usage you will be in the pits twice as much
as the real guys for the same fuel loads.  That's not realistic.  Since you
can't travel twice as fast each pit stop is going to cost you
proportionately more of the race than it would in real life.  Why not run 2x
or 3x fuel usage instead?  That would give you close to the right
proportions.

It doubles the rate at which physics calculations are made.

The tire-sampling option increases the detail in the tire model, and
is mostly noticeable when driving on kerbs.  As I understand, it
treats individual sections of tire independently instead of part of a
single contact patch.

Both of these things combined are essentially the difference between
nudging the edge of a kerb while following the ideal racing line or
driving the exact same line and having your car tossed through the
air.  Seems kinda lame, but eh well.

Really I guess forcing those options isn't a big deal since not using
them is a disadvantage in any case that I can think of.

Uh, YEAH...<g>
I just don't hit 7th very often...

What should the strength be set to?  I have the AI set to 75% at the moment.

You can run an entire GP on a set of soft tires and they'll still be
green at the end, which is why I'd personally go with 7x tire wear
once we have a couple races in the books.

Fuel on the other hand, I dunno.  I'd use 1x regardless, as you might
want to take a pitstop anyway at some tracks, depending on the speed
difference between a full and half tank of fuel.  The fuel load
affects the handling so much in an F1 car that I find even 2x tends to
throw my balance off.  4x or 7x is just nuts, as you're going from
half a tank of gas to 0 in a 3 lap qual session.

I ran a 50% race last night (against the AI) using normal fuel use & tyre
wear.
On lap 30 of 33, just as my front brakes failed, the front tyres had about
60% wear remaining (as shown by the bars on the LCD display) and the rears
70, the car felt terrible. Anything below 70% seems to make a big difference
to handling.

I vote for normal wear for 100% races and 2X for half length.

I must remember to fit bigger brake ducts for the race ;)

Hi Ian, thanks for the help there :)

I picked up the program and have done some laps. Due to no multiplayer in
any previous F1 sim - this is the first modern F1 sim I've tried since GP2.
I am mortified to find that I'm piddling around Hockenheim in the 22s at
best. This is not just off the pace this is off the planet :(

As I'm not keen on getting entirely embarrassed on Sunday, are there any
hints/tips/replays/setups/telemetry/prayers you can suggest that might help
me drag my sorry ass into the real world? Bit of a cheek I know so if you're
too busy not a problem.

I was going to email this begging letter but don't have an email address
available from any of our boards ;)

Regards

Neil, you can mail me at my spamtrap address, I'll reply with a real mail
address.

You're welcome to my replays and setups.
I don't check telemetry or anything though, but a prayer to the simgods
usually pays dividends ;)
