Well, the good news is you're not the only one. I went through this exact
same situation just last week. More than likely there is a problem with the
sound and when it hits that part of the startup it crashes hard. I'm using a
MX300 too and what I found was the soundblaster emulation(I believe this is
only used for older dos stuff) did not install for whatever reason.
You can check under the device manager and verify that the SB emulation is
there(I bet it isn't). If its not there the way that I solved this was too
remove the MX300 from my system(via the device manager, if you remove the
multi-function adapter it gets rid of all of it), then reboot and reinstall
the drivers when asked. After you've done that part verify that the sb
emulation is now showing up in the device manager. Take a look at the
resources that the sb emulation is using and note the IRQ,DMA, and mem info.
Now run the setup.exe app in the N2 dir and set the card to a sb stereo with
the settings noted in the last step. Click test and it should work. Now run
N2 and it should also work.
There is, for me anyway, still a problem which I still haven't solved. When
I reboot, after its all set up and working, its gone again:) My other
computer never did this and I dot have a clue why this one is. I haven't
talked with Diamond(dot even know if that would help<G>) yet to see if there
is a fix for this. So for now everytime I want to run N2(NROS included) I
have to go through the steps above to get it too work:( If you can figure
out what is causing this to happen please pass it along to your racing
buds:)
Hope this helps ya Walk.
