I installed DX8 and now GPL wont work , any ideas that do not involve re -
installing windows 98 or re programing my computer with an axe would be
welcome.

PII 450     Voodoo 3000   Sb live value or 1024    128mb ram  .  all the
latest drivers.     MS sidwinder precision USB wheel.  and a red Lava lap
next to my monitor but its been there a while now so its not a prime
suspect.

I'm afraid I had a similar experience with DX7, and none of the
so-called DX uninstallers worked.
It took a re-install on windows to get me back to 6.whatever, until
DX7a came along and that was OK.
Why I'm being very wary of DX8 - sorrreee!

DX 8a works fine for me?  Might want to give it a shot?

Won't work "how"? Does it not start at all or does it crash. Any error
messages to report? More info is always a good thing.

Did you install any new tracks, dashes, sounds, etc. along with DX8?

I have a somewhat similar PC (PII 333, Voodoo3, 128MB RAM. Different sound
card and wheel and no lava lamp) and GPL works fine with DX 8.0a.

DX8a and Win98 also works fine for me. That's with a Sidewinder Precision
USB wheel too :0)

> That means it COULD be the lamp then ?????.

The only change is DX8 From 7a . symptoms of failure were that 1st run after
dx8 install got load screen and to the bit where u go drive then black
screen, no windows response ,reset button then 15mins scan disk.  2nd
loading after reboot and just black screen, no windows 98 response (no
change there) etc.

No mods to game , its been installed since i got this machine 2 + years ago.
not even patched (I got strange pulsating grafix/framerate with v.1.1 and
1.2  so replaced the the .exe from the cd and got the benifits of the
controller settings from v1.2 (thats if I remember this right,it was ages
ago when i did this). I use GPL as  a benchmark game, if i install a new
sound or Grafix card or anything and it works with GPL I know its ok.(gpl
didn't even like my scanner).
