Hmm, Cobra Daytona, Cobra 427, Ferrari 250 GTO, Lightweight Jaguar E-type,
Project D Astons...

Hey, anyone see the TT at Goodwood last year? Best race I have ever seen in
my life! Imagine overreving and spinning off in a 1mill 250 GTO! (Kudos
Damon!)

*faaaaaaint

I also left out Austin A35's    .....:-)))

On the other hand, if you reread my post, I said *even* a Galaxie, so
you would have to whip my Alfa GTA ***I'm afraid.......

Beers and cheers

A Can-Am or Trans-Am legends sim would be cool.

Yeah, a proper sim with the Auto Unions and Silver Arrows would be superb.
None of that SoS trash.

Cheers

My Year of choice for GPL2 would either be either the late 30's
or 1982.

In 1982 you would have a wide range of machinery available, all
very differant but all possible to win:

The Turbos.  These cars had an advantage at the altitude circuit
(Kyalami) and the power circuits; Monza, Hockenheim etc.

Renault:  The Renault that year was quite often the fastest
during qualifying but was let down by poor reliability in the
races.

Ferrari:  Possibly the best car of the year, championship hopes
dashed by Villeneuve dieing and Pironi attemting a similar fate.

Brabham - BMW:  Became one of the fastest cars towards the end
of the year.  Piquet won one race in Canada.  Half way through
the season Brabham introduced refueling which allowed them to
use their power advantage to the upmost to gain an early lead.
These tactics didn't work that year but led to what is now a
part of F1 racing.

Toleman - Hart:  After managing to achieve non-qualification in
all but 3 races during the previous one and a half seasons,
Toleman finally came right and Warwick managed fastest lap at
Zandvoort and amazingly (and I was there to witness it) ran
second to a Niki Lauda for a while at Brands Hatch.

The Normally aspirated.  Reliable, quick on slower and medium
speed tracks:

Brabham:  After a dissapointing first race Brabham resorted to
the DFV powered car.  Success came in Brazil till Piquet was
disqualified.  Piquet then ran the BMW engine while Patrese
stuck with the DFV, scoring a win at Monaco.

Willaims:  Starting the season with the still competitive FW07,
switched to the even better FW08 by Zolder.  Rosberg was quite
often beaten by the Turbos and even other DFV cars.  Consistant
points finishes and a brilliant win at Dijon brought the
championship.

Tyrrell:  Michele Alboreto was often battling with Rosberg and
was always at the front of the DFV "gang". Won the final round
at Ceasers Palace.

Mclaren:  John Watson was runner up to Rosberg, he won at Zolder
and Detroit.  Lauda won at Long Beach and Brands Hatch.  Despite
these sucesses they were off pace at plenty of tracks.

Alfa Romeo:  De Ceseris scored a pole at Long Beach and ran
second till putting it into the wall.   Surprise! Surprise!

The rest of the field were also rans.  As you can see 1982 had
more race winners than many season before or since.

Anyone who remembers Rosberg and Villeneuve at Long Beach that
year will understand the differance between the Turbos Power and
the DFV's handling.  Villeneuve was much faster on the straight
and would come from 100 metres back at the start of the straight
and just power by keke before the end.  Through the twisty
section Keke would just be able to get past Gilles as the
Williams had superior handling.  Back to the straight and Gilles
would come like a rocket and pass Rosberg again.  Eventually
Gilles spun while braking at the end of the straight after
slightly over doing it.

Seeing as Spa was used again in 1983, maybe that could replace
Zolder.  The rest of the tracks should be okay.

Would be an interesting sim if it had the same attention to
detail that GPL had.

Chris

But let's face it: no-one would ever race on-line with anything but
the turbos. It would be the Lotus thang just a million times worse.
Plus you'd have to worry about a rampaging Jean-Marie Balestre running
over the track, driving alone on the track while the AI drivers sit on
strike in the motorhomes and worry about your moustache catching fire.

For pure commercial Appeal, "TV Legends", with "The General Lee" from the
"Dukes of Hazzard", KITT from "Knight Rider" and other famous cars from
films or TV. Then you could *be* Starsky and Hutch, at the Nurburgring, or
thrash Steve McQueen's Mustang round Hockenheim. Naturally, it could still
be a sim, but with a broader appeal.

Of course the logical continuation to this would be to include the Wacky
Races cars.  Dick Dastardly would certainly gives John Surtees a run for his
money!

Kendt

PS - I'd pay $150 for "Sports Car Legends" or "GT Legends" - mid-60's
sports cars and Le Mans racers - oh, yes :).

Considering both "Legends" software by Papyrus are flops, we can't bet high
that the powers-that-be suits at Sierra will green light another legend-type
simulator, even if many of us would love to see them.

It's just not popular enough for the mass market, and that's how Sierra
works.
