Is this porked or what??? The audio cues are totally cool. However the whole
thing just seems screwy. The computer cars keep coming to a complete stop
just as they take the green flag. Also, I momentarily passed the car just in
front
of me. Then about a second later I backed off and took my proper position.
Is this really a black flag? This is hard not to do when the AI comes to a
complete
stop on the finial  yellow lap. The track lights are cool though :-)

Has this happened to others?

I was highly disappointed in N99 because of this problem. In N2 this
happened much less frequently.  I want some input cause Im sittin' on the
fence about spending my hard earned money on a game with the same problem.

Regards
Greg

I would say do it (spend your hard earned cash). yes, the problems are
still there, but they happen less frequently than they did in n99. it
is rather frustrating, but i think in the end, the game is worth the
money.

The ai slowing during a caution is a result of the double file restarts
introduced with N99. Unfortunately, it's a tradeoff. You will learn where
and how much they slow, and begin to compensate for it. It is a pain though
early on. Or, if it really annoys you, you can turn off double file restarts
and it would be better in that respect. Because N3 was built upon the N99
engine, that trait carried over into it.

OK but is accidentally passing (and ten going back to your proper
position before the green) under the yellow really a black flag?

Depends.  If you get back into position before the green flag drops, then
you're OK.  But if the race goes green, and you are not completely behind the
car you are supposed to be, you get the black flag.

I save the game during the one lap to green portion.  I consider the running
into the back of someone because of the AI slowdown/stop not a fair deal, and
if it occurs I exit and restart the saved game.

The best defense is to offset to the inside while*** slightly back until
the AI settles down.  Sometimes they slow on the back stretch, and this will
often catch you unaware...

At Dover, I was lining up on the inside line (5 laps down) when a car from the outside line
punted me out of the way and sped up. I didn't see where he went as I was doing 360's.

I keep getting told to line up on the right line even though I'm not on the lead lap.

Yep it is just screwy. I was in a race and a yellow came out. Then we
went green and I wrecked into the 25th place car because the whole
field came to a stop on turn 4. So the yellow came out again. The whole
time the spotter kept telling me to let the car behind me go infront. He was
no where near me as that part of the field was *WAY* off the pace during
the yellow (about 1/3rd of a lap). I never did let that guy past, and still
got
a black flag.

Then as I said earlier, another time I passed another car under the yellow
(we had not taken the green yet) but I let him back in his proper place.
Then 3 laps later we took the green and I got black flagged.

The obvious question is, didn't the beta testers find this stuff? If they
did then why wasn't it fixed? This is why I hate beta testing for the
most part.

My solution is to drive with the yellows and damage OFF.

Kind of takes allot away from the game IMHO.

Greg, I, too, always race with Damage (well, Arcade, but, hey
- I suck!) and yellows.  I've been thinking about dropping Yellows,
too, cause I keep plowing into the car in front of me if I'm at the
back of the pack when they go green...
There's a reason I haven't dropped 'em yet, just as you said:
takes too much away from the game!

back of the pack when they go green...

I wouldn't.  Racing without cautions becomes a wild, uncontrolled demolition
derby type melee.  I agree the slowdown of the field sucks, but there are a
couple of options:  Single file restarts supposedly minimizes the problem; or
just don't go balls to the wall when the green flag drops at certain tracks.
Some tracks you can, some you can't, but if you are indeed faster than the cars
around you, having 5 or 6 pass you in the first lap/turn because you didn't
want to bend your front end is a small price to pay-- you can get by them
eventually.  Or simply do not drive in the groove until turn one.  That's what
I do, and it seems to work out OK.
