Every time I watch and Indy car race on TV, there are accidents that I had nothing to do with.  However, in ICR, only I can prevent accidents.  Do the other cars ever get tangled up?  I can't always stay in a race long enough to find out.  It's kind of open wheeled demolition derby time.  Sometimes they just***me off and I race the track backwards and see how many tires I can launch. :)

Although most of the AI in ICR is pretty darn good, the drivers are a
little too mistake-free compared to the real thing.  I have seen at
least one yellow flag that I was not directly involved with (Willy T.
Ribs spinning into the guardrail at the exit of the keyhole at MidOhio),
so they're not perfect. They just seem to be a bit telepathic when it
comes to racing with each other.

On the ICR Michigan oval I witnessed the computer-Rahal driver, who
was in first place at the time, lose it and hit the wall. He bounced
across the track obscured in smoke - I drove through without hitting
anything, but several (4) other cars wound up joining the wreckage.

The yellow came out, of course.

That is just one incident which I can clearly recall.

Yes, others do crash, and have engine problems, clutch problems,
gearbox trouble, etc.  This is a *complete* game!

Actually, I was running the Indy 500 with the CARS94 update from Ralf and
lo and behold, Emerson Fittipaldi lost control of his car in turn 3 and
biffed the wall.  I laughed.  Hard.

No! I'm serious!  I was using Ralf's CARS94.ZIP and the three Penske cars
were leading, and Fittipaldi ate it going into corner two.  And Little Al
went on to win the race.  I think Tracy dropped out with engine failure
(Take THAT, Mercedes! :) ).

okay .... speaking about yellow flags and ICR... am i the only one that
thinks they need to rework a little of the AI for yellow flags and pit
stops?   i've noticed many times that when i'm racing and say a yellow
flag comes out around lap 36 (where normal pit stops would be at 40, for
example) ... they green flag normally comes back out around 39-40, if i
pit on the first lap of the yellow..i of course fall to the end of the
line but when the green comes back out they all head into the pit!

I have a different yellow flag question. I touches tires with another
car, and he hit the wall (whoops). My car was fine, and the yellow
goes out. I get back in the formation, and drive, but the green never
comes out. Do I have to pit? Was I maybe in the wrong position? I
looked through the book, but was unable to find anything. Is there a
certain number of laps yopu have to go before the green? I'm just
getting into this game, so forgive my noviceness.

---Sounds alot like you need to get ahold of the "re-done" Green Flag position
patches over at didnt.doit.wisc.edu /ICR/updates directory, to me ;--)
I bet this occurs at the Indy track and maybe Mid-Ohio?  You can wait
FOREVER without these fixes as the Green never comes out again.  I can
mail them to you (or someone else can I'm sure) if you need anymore
advice.  Let me know if you require any further assistance.  Good Luck
and Happy Racing!

===================================================

You need to get the bug fixes.  You must be racing at IMS.  The fixes
are available at the Papyru BBS, AOL, and the Papyrus FTP site.

Hope that helps,

Rob
