Tnt 2 & Voodoo?

by Jerr » Mon, 03 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Being the owner of a Diamond TNT 2 Ultra Agp and reading these posts
praising the Voodoo 2-3 my question is: Can I install the Voodoo  in
addition to my Tnt card?  If I can then can I choose which one I want
to use?
Thanks---Jerry---

You can't install a V3 with the TNT 2, but you could install a V2 with it.
IMO, this wouldn't be the best use of your $$ though.  In some ways the TNT
2 is the better 3D card, and in others the V2 is the better card (some
specific games run and/or look better with GLide compared with D3D or
OpenGL).  So, I'm not sure if it's worth it for you to buy a Voodoo board
now.  Can you hold out for the next generation of cards to replace your
TNT2?

I have a CLabs TNT2 Ultra in the AGP slot with a V3 2000 in a pci and it
works fine
PII 400
196MB RAM
GigaByte GA686BX mobo

I used to use both displays together, mainly in FS98, but I must admit that
now I only use the V3, the ultra is just sitting there, disabled.

The dual display combo works with all the drivers from about 2.08(ref) for
the ultra and any of the 3dfx ones.

I don't know what the other gut is on about!

Hope this helps
Jack

     I have been running a Diamond Viper 770 TNT2 32 meg card
(non-Ultra) with an Orchid Voodoo 1 4 meg card for a several months.
     Yesterday I removed the Voodoo1 and installed a Voodoo2 12 meg
card, mainly for GPL.  Buy.com had the 3dfx V2 1000 PCI for $65 and I
downloaded a $30 coupon from 3dfx's site!  UPS delivered the card to
me less than 24 hours after I ordered it on Buy.com's site.  The card
actually beat the email notification of shipment!  (I'm in Delaware
and the card was shipped from PA I think.)

Most well written software allows you to select which display
adapater to use during program setup or every time you start the
program.

The TNT2 makes GPL look clearest but had too many graphic
glitches to make it enjoyable.  The Voodoo2 does a real nice job and
the only part that really doesn't look as good is the track itself.
It just looks a bit blurry.  Of course, at speed, I guess a track
should look blurry!  :-)

From my Buy.com invoice:
Shipped 1/4/00    Qty(1)    Sku#10053332    3DFX 1000 PCI 12MB VOODOO2
DIRECT 3D/GLIDE FOR ***
