GPL AI Too Slow or Too Fast?

by Jack Ramb » Sun, 09 May 1999 04:00:00

In the GPL community, two views of the AI seem to predominate...

The Novice's View
a.. The AI are untouchable. How can I learn by racing with those guys?

b.. The conventional approach of modifying the AI behavior by manually changing the INI files often results in backmarkers that are absurdly and dangerously slow when reducing the AI strength to allow mid-grid or better qualifying.

c.. Even with the AI strength reduced, the field is too spread out. Wish there were more drivers to compete with at my speed.

d.. It's too cumbersome to manually change the AI settings, assuming I choose to take the time to figure out what I need to change.

e.. The AI never make some of the same mistakes I do.
The Expert's View
a.. I'm too fast for the AI. They're too slow to challenge me.

b.. The range of speeds among the AI is dangerously broad and unpredictable.

c.. It's too cumbersome to manually change the AI settings, assuming I choose to take the time to figure out what I need to change.

d.. The AI never make some of the same mistakes I do.
And surely you can add some thoughts of your own! But, whether you're a Novice or Expert, GPaL - "The Essential Companion to Grand Prix Legends" is about to change everything you ever thought about racing with the AI and introduce an entirely new level of ease of use to Grand Prix Legends.
