RBR no go w/VIA KT333 chipset mb?

by DK » Sat, 18 Sep 2004 14:26:04

With great anticipation my copy arrived yesterday from gogamer.com,
but it won't run on my system. I get the "Loading Rally HQ"  splash
screen , with a progress bar that just starts then a kick back to
desktop. A look thru some forums and it seems others with the same
chipset are having problems also.
So, does anyone have it working with a VIA KT333 chipset mb?
Installed the latest VIA drivers, tried the no cd exe., various vid
card drivers,same results every time.

System specs.

WinXP
Athlon XP2000+
Abit KX7-333R (flashed to latest bios)
512mb RAM
GeForce 4 Ti4400
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Direct X 9.0a

Help!!!!!!! I really wanna experience this sim!!!!!!!!!

It might be useful checking this newsgroup before posting to see if others
have answered your query :)

Install Direct X 9.0c

Thanks Tim, but I do check this group every day and haven't seen this
problem posted here.

I did install DX 9.0c and the exact same problem still happens.
Next?

Have you tried flashing your BIOS to the latest version? Sorry if
you've tried that already, it solved the problem on my ECS K7S5A / LAN
(SiS 735 chipset)

Good luck,

uwe

Please accept my apologies.

I saw a lot of messages in this forum stating that DirectX 9.0c was
required, after people reporting having problems with Direct X9.0a, which
you listed in your configuration.

I've got a KT333 chipset (MSI KT3Ultra 2), rest of the specs like so:

Athlon XP2700+
512mb RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
Hercules Game Theater XP
Direct X 9.0b

Video card is running the Doom3 Hotfix Beta drivers (I think essentially
the beta Catalyst 4.9s)

I'm still running the BIOS it came with, so it's at least a year old,
probably more like 2.   I did install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers for
AGP stuff when I got Doom 3, which made a heck of a performance
difference, so you might check that if you haven't already.

I wish I could tell you what else is different, but yes, it's running
very, very well and has yet to crash at all on my KT333 based machine.

Thanks for the help. Knowing that you have it running inspired me to
keep trying, and I'm happy to report that it's now running
flawlessly!!!!  Between the mb BIOS flash, latest VIA 4-in-1
drivers,latest Nvidia drivers,multiple reboots,kicking,screaming,etc.,
it now runs perfectly. A lot of hassle, but the sim is worth it. ;-)

Same as what I was going to say, glad you got it all up and running!

Even more fun, enjoy those trees that just happen to be just outside the
corner exit on really, really high speed corners, kinda like *that* tree
at the Ring on GPL ;)

Thanks guys. I haven't enjoyed sim racing this much since the GPL demo
was released way back.
There are a few choice spots where the trees seem to be magnetically
attracted to my front bumper.Every time I swear I'll slow down when I
get to that point, but my right foot has a mind of it's own. ;-)
I'd like to formally apologize to the family's of the course workers
who stand so close to the road. If those guys would just back up
another three feet or run a little faster when they see me coming,we
could avoid those little "happenings".  :-)
