RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

Well I really like RBR even though I can't understand or keep up with
the co-driver's instructions but the darn game won't let me use my
hyper-stim setup in split axis mode.  Why can't these people get the
most basic component of a game correct?  ISI was like that in the
early versions of F1.  Papy is the only one that got it right from the
beginning.  Win XP even. And yes the controller was in split axis
mode: straight from GPL.

You have to unassign the throttle/brake control and leave the individual
brake and throttle assigned.

Hi Jeff, if you problem is with a full-on brake when the pedal is not
being pressed see the other thread entitled "RBR: two down..." for a
possible resolution (it involved some easy soldering on my TSW2
pedals, if you're desparate you might give it a go).

Good luck,

uwe

Have you tried the on-screen 3D co-driver prompts (if that's not too
arcadey for you)?

Before you do that try this:

This worked for me and my TSW / WinXP system.  I used this fix for Live For
Speed, but I wonder if it would also work for this game as well.

Works fine here, I have to invert the brake axis in the Hyper software,
and in RBR delete the brake+Throttle control.

RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

Bill,
Well I took a look at the registry in that area. I noticed two things:
My OEM data was already set to the value that you gave for my hyper
VID/PID key.  There are registry keys that my hyper software keeps for
each racing game configuration and loads them when I configure it.
This vaires if it is separate axis control or combined.  There are
keys for the gas and brake axis min and max and also a key for reverse
axis but I don't have a clue how to set the value for the reverse
flag.

When I delete the value in RBR config screen  for the combined
brake/gas  and have my hyper set to split axis,  the brake shows full
on while the gas is fine.  Clearly it would seem I need to set the
flag  in the registry to reverse the brake axis  but I don't have a
clue which value it is. Anyway I wrote to the game producers and Hyper
to see about it.  Surely other Hyper guys are having problems with
this?  I have a feeling all this stuff is documented in the DirectX
programming guides..

Hey spam,

Someone mentioned that if they config the controller (via the windows applet
*important*) WITH the brakes applied half on, that it fixed the problem in
RBR.  This is kinda true with a few "dumb" games, as NR, GPL, and other dont
give a squat how windows seen the gameport, but apparently RBR ask's windows
"duh what you see?" and widnows goes "Duh, a pedal"

This solutions was for some other pedals TSW2 (thomas wheel) but seems
exactly same problem you have.  I am looking for the post and poster if I
find that one again.  see any of the RBR where they are helping Uwe out,
IIRC.

RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

by bhoeni » Sat, 18 Sep 2004 11:10:28

I have a similar problem with my split-axis TSW peds (not TSW2).  Throttle is
recognized properly in RBR, but the brake registers as half-on when it's not
depressed, and fully off when it's fully pressed.  I tried the registry hack
mentioned elsewhere, and also tried the "brake half-depressed while
calibrating in Windows" suggested elsewhere and neither worked for me.  (BTW
-- this is under WinXP.)

Fortunately, I use a Logi MOMO Force wheel in conjunction with the TSW peds
(as a separate controller).  When I set RBR to point to the Logi's peds,
everything is detected properly.  So, unless someone has a suggestion for
getting the TSW brake ped to work properly, I'll have to use the Logi peds
with RBR.    8(    .....I'd rather use the TSW peds since that set-up works
with all of my other sims though.

Uwe previously posted a brake fix for his TSW2 that involved switching two
wires on the brake pot.  Per Dave Thomas at TSW, this is the proper fix and
will also work for the TSW model.  Simply swap terminals for the red and
blue wires on your brake pot.

Only downside is that you won't have combined mode available.  Simple
recalibration took care of GPL and NR2003.

RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

I'm guessing it would be very simple to add a switch for this.  Rumour has
it that there'll be a patch shortly to fix the split axis problems for TSW
pedals.

RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

The Hyper Profiler Software sets the values you see under the OEM Registry
Key. On the Gameport version, this is used by the Hyper Device Drivers. They
are overridden whenever the Hyper software detects a new game is about to
start. The OEM Key is actually a placeholder for special registry settings
specific to the Hyper (ie. AXISFLAGS etc), and DirectX ignores what's under
this key. This is as per Microsoft guidelines in the DDK (Device Driver
Development Kit).

Most of this stuff in the Registry is documented in the Microsoft DDK - here
is some good, if not intense reading if you are interested...

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/inti...

I suggest that you don't muck around with these values under the OEM key
directly to try to solve the problem with RBR.  The Hyper Profiler software
allows you to Invert the Accelerator and Brake axis for all Game Profiles or
just for specific Games. If you want to Invert the Brake for all Game
Profiles then select the "Default" Profile and select Edit and the Invert
Brake option. You will then need to recalibrate your controller - the
Calibration settings will then apply to all Game Profiles.  You can
alternatively create a Game Profile specfiic to the Game and then edit that
profile and Invert the Brake. Again, you will need to Calibrate your
controller, however the Calibration settings only apply to that specific
Game Profile.

RBR No Go Split Axis with Hyper Stim

by No Spa » Sat, 18 Sep 2004 23:48:30

This did the trick!  I never noticed the "reverse axis" check boxes
when I set up the new profile.  Consequently all my fiddling was
focused on the calibration screens once I found the game couldn't read
my controls properly and I never even thought of looking to edit the
profile.  Perhaps these check boxes could be duplicated on the
calibration screen for those of us who setup profiles so infrequently.

Thanks, Les.

Hmmm....  My TSW already has a switch on it to go from combined axis to split
axis.  I always have it set to split.  Perhaps I should juts set it for combined
and see if RBR sees it as split, since it seems to see it "reversed"?

I'll try it and report back.

Nope.  That didn't work.  As soon as I threw the switch, XP's game controller applet
said that the controller was no longer connected -- and within RBR, it wasn't.  8(
