New VIA Chipset "4in1" Drivers

by Tom Pabs » Wed, 14 Mar 2001 04:36:17

Those of you running mobo's with VIA chipsets (should be all of you with new
AMD platforms/GF2 or V5 computers), they've released their final version
"4in1" Driver set (version 4.29 final) last Friday (3/9).  You can download
it at:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/(a).zip

Make sure you install them in "turbo" mode....or you'll only be running
AGPx1.....!!!!

My 3DMark2000 scores jumped 12% with these, N4 FPS about 8%....on a AMD
1.2gig Athy, with GF2 ULTRA.

Install these drivers only if you know what you are doing (probably
meaning - you built your own system)!

Tom Pabst

Tom,

Do you know if these help in any way with the stabilty issues I've seen in
Windows 2000 with the new KT133a/686B motherboards ?

This last weekend I built a new ASUS K7V133a/T-Bird 1.2Ghz (266DDR) system
and Windows 2000 has been a real pain...

No issues with Win98OE at all.

I haven't got a clue, Larry.  I have a hard enough time keeping up with my
own hardware/ops system changes.  I haven't seen anything in the "tech
forums" on this issue either.  I wonder, is it possible that you should not
be running Win2000....its not a "*** ops system?"  Is there a solid
reason that you must run it?  I guess that's my real question.   Re: the new
VIA chipset drivers.  They install over the top of each other (as you
probably know)....so try the new ones.....see what happens.  You can always
revert back.
