RBR: one down, one to go

Hi guys,

I just updated the BIOS on my ECS K7S5A/LAN, and it looks like that
solved the crash-at-startup problem. Now all that's left is getting
the brake pedal to work correctly, and heck, I might even rewire it
just to give it a go! ;)

Thanks to all the folks who made suggestions, I am pretty hopeful now
that a patch might address the split axis problem!

cheers & bye for now,

uwe

Wonder if that DirectX-Tool: DirectX tweaking utility that I cannot remember
the name of, (read it posted about on here many moons ago) would fix this
for you somehow...

I strongly suspect that the problem can be solved with a great deal of
swearing and hitting things, and quite a bit of playing around with
utils like DXtweak ;-)

rbr seems to be sponsored by Logitech so while it's no great surprise
that all our Momo's work first time, they probably didn't bother to do
much testing with any other hardware that can't be plugged into a
console. Pity.

Remember Uwe, it's always the last thing you try that works, so try that
first ;-)

Good news. I posted in another thread I rewired my TM Formula Pro to get
split axis working.

I wonder just how many obsessive hours we spend just to make these things
work?

Cheers

For their sake I hope all the in-game Logitech product placements have
nothing to do with the controller setup snafu people are experiencing when
pairing with non-Logitech wheels.  It boggles the mind that a big-dollar
racing game like this could have gone through QA without being tested
against an Act-Labs or TSW pedal.

Hehe, well said, Malc ;-) So I went straight for the most
work-intensive suggestion and fiddled with the wires on my brake pot,
and while it nicely reversed the action of the crosshair in the
win98se (still running that, no need to upgrade, remember ;-) joystick
calibration tool, it did nothing to help RBR recognize the "correct"
movement direction of the brake pedal.

However I was fed up enough trying to hack RBR into working on my
system that I simply chose the shifter knob on my TSW for braking, and
wow, this sim is great. It really feels nice, and I my best stage time
at Harwood so far is a 4m04 (sounds strangely familiar to the HTTP
error, right? ;-)

Anyway, thanks for all your help once more, this truly is a wonderful
bunch of people to hang out with! Now back to RBR. (c8

Cheers,

uwe

Would setting up a new device (e.g. custom joystick with 2 axis and rudder
pedals or simlar) help?

Are you sure you're configuring the right control setting? theres one called
"throttle and brake" for single axis, and separate brake and throttle for
split, you have to delete one

yep, the tsw2 is set up for split axis within RBR. I can see the
inputs move on separate axis in the red slider box, it's just that the
brake goes from full-on to off as I depress the pedal.

Also, there seems to be some flickering connected to the throttle
which results the brake being stuck at the half-way point as soon as I
tip the throttle pedal. I had the same problem with RT, but that one
could be resolved by changing some values in a text .ini file.

Cheers,

In fairness my cheapo BRD racer gameport wheel and MS Sidewinder pedals
(USB) are both working flawlessly with RBR under Windows XP.

So it's not a generic "non logitech" problem.

cheers
John
