I agree with all of Ed's points, but would add that you can setup a separate
connection (at the aforementioned slower speeds) for ***, and a faster one
for websurfing.
I connect at 19600 for *** (GPL) and at around 49000 when web-surfing. The
only annoyance is that you have to re-dial.
