GPL on a non3Dfx card?

GPL on a non3Dfx card?

by Bob Om » Sat, 28 Sep 2002 11:29:25

I have just upgraded to an AMD 1800, etc, etc. Do I need to keep my
VooDoo 3500 card to run GPL or is there a way now to use a GeForce
card effectively.  I also just chucked dial-up ISP and am on a
broadband modem, so I'm looking to online racing. What might
be my best bet in Video Cards? GPL is what I run, period.
Thanks to all for your help and for making an interesting group,

Bob Omo

with the available patches from www.papy.com in the downloads section, you can run GPL with
virtually any modern 3D video card using OpenGL or D3D.

GPL on a non3Dfx card?

I run a Gforce2 Ultra and using d3d7 patch I run 1600 x 1200 with 2x aniso
on a 21" monitor full detail, full field and have no problem maintaining 36
fps except for starting grid or glitchy addon tracks. The fonts are small
but its no big deal to me. While I don't use antialiasing who needs it at
1600 x 1200 it will mess up some screens and cause the game to behave very
erratic. I also have a Voodoo 5500 but have not used it with GPL.

You can get a fix for the fonts here
http://www.theuspits.com/owheel/gpl/index.html altho it can make the chat
fonts a bit to large .

It also messes up the menu fonts, particularly the garage settings.

Dave Henri

GPL on a non3Dfx card?

by Dave Henri » Sun, 29 Sep 2002 10:49:24

I don't know where I found it...but there was another util like that,
that enlarged the chat font WITHOUT impacting the setup/garage/menu fonts.
I would assume searching Racesmim central 'might' be a good place to start.
Good luck.
