FF Wheel ?

by UnserFa » Sun, 12 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Let's say one has the ACT Labs Force RS FF wheel in the future and wants to use
it with ICR2.  Will there be any resistance at all in the wheel?  In general,
how can FF wheels be used with non-FF games/sims?  Just wanted to know before
actual getting a FF wheel and not be able to do anything but CPR.

God bless,

my uneducated guess would be that any game
not supporting FF would not exhibit FF.

Would this mean that there would be like a bungee or something like a T2/Nascar
(F1) Pro or would the wheel just be limp and unusable for ICR2?

If it works anything like the MS force feedback pro joystick you can set the
amount of resistance in the control panel for non FF games.
Although I normally use my TM F1 racing wheel for racing sims I tried it
with
F1 RS and you can feel the steering stiffen into corner's and goes light
after losing front grip into slower corner's, so it look's reasonably
promising for FF wheels. BTW patch 1 09 for F1RS has the I Force 2 FF
support which has 2 settings 1 for j/stick and the other for the wheel.
Check the FrcFeedB readme in the F1RS directory).

And my uneducated guess would be that under ff the wheel will work with the
motor runniing with the ff commands, but in non ff modes the motor would not
be running, but it'll still give out the output commands so you can still
drive in the sims that dont support ff. Because of this, I am allmost 100%
sure they would not use a bungee cord for those reasons because the motor
would then have even a harder time surviving a long life time.

According to I-Force, it is possible to customize the steering
resistance in software that doesn't support I-Force.  You don't
get any FF effects, but the wheel will self-center.  The ACT
Labs Force RS wheel is supposed to be able to do this.  I should
be able to tell you for sure in a couple of weeks :)
