XP and Nascar Legends

by Ed Whit » Wed, 12 Dec 2001 08:48:30

Hi all, I recently installed NL for the first time, and entered player info
and painted a car, but never turned even a lap. Then, I installed
WinXP.....and now, I can't even get to the splash screen, my monitor clicks
twice, as tho it was changing res twice, rather than the normal once for N4
or GPL, and I go back to desktop. Uninstalled and reinstalled, same
results....n4 and GPL worked without any problems, so I'm lost......any
ideas will be tried out.

Have you tried running it in win98 compatibility mode?

Don, I have not tried running it in win98 compatibility mode, because I
wouldn't recognize win98 compatibility mode if it ran over me with a Mack
truck. How do I get Win98 comp mode? I just perused the readme, no help
there...

You can run any game in "win98 compatibility" in windows XP, it is a
function of XP, designed for backwards compatibility for games that have
trouble running in XP.
I cannot tell you how, as I do not have XP yet but have been doing a lot of
reading in the newsgroups on it as I will be upgrading to it shortly.
I am sure someone who has it can tell you how to do so in XP, might be worth
a try.

Try right clicking on the .exe or shortcut for Legends in XP, and see if it
shows an option to run in win98 compatiblity. Again, I am not sure I am
going by memory on what I have read elsewhere, I'm sure someone with Xp can
fill you in better on this.

In win2000 you just right clicked on the shortcut and it was on the second
tab. since XP is bulit from Win2000 I would bet its pretty close to that.

I neglected to mention that I'm using a SB Live value sound card, and if I
recall correctly there are some issues with this card, as I'm discovering in
GPL......'nother bummer. Any card recommendations? Turtle Beach?

I wouldn't go to the expense of purchasing another card for that reason, the
Live is a good card, it's main issues are being able to share irq's in win9x
and xp. Sometimes you have to try different pci slots to find one it is
happy with. If it's working ok for you in other games, you are probably
fine.
I have a Live as well and it has run Legends, N3, N4, and GPL without a
hiccup.
Did you install the upgraded XP drivers for that Live card?
