Nascar Racing 3 vs. Nascar Legends

Nascar Racing 3 vs. Nascar Legends

All,

Is it just me, or would Nascar Legends been more 'acceptable' if it were
marketed as a $20 add-on pack to N3 (like the rumored truck pack)?

I shamelessly admit I bought NL for myself for Christmas.  It's a shame
CompUSA doesn't take software back :(

I knew the engine was the same, but I never thought the entire _feel_ of the
game would be the same!

Same sounds.  Exactly!  I'm old enough to remember that a Superbird didn't
sound the same as the 1999 Monte Carlo!

And, take Talladega (Alabama) for example.  When comparing the
old-technology, bias-tired, not-as-aerodynamic cars of the NL years to the
up-to-date cars in N3, the results are.... IDENTICAL!

The speeds are exactly the same!

Isn't that convenient :)

$50 for new car skins and background pictures.  Very dissapointing :(

The guy at CompUSA said it has been a _horrible_ seller.  I guess I should
have listened :)

Really?
I find Legends to be a nice change, the cars handle different to me, it's
tougher to manage tire wear, certainly they are slower, with the exception
of Talladega, of course they aren't running the restrictor plates there. And
the cars sound very different to me, I really like the way they sound.
While the speeds at Alabama may be the same, you certainly wont find the
tire wear identical, and you won't want to run it full bore without lifting
for a fuel run.
I'm involved in a Legends league on Saturday nights, and we're having a
blast with it.

At least they were smart enough to release the modern sim first this
time, unlike when they released GPL and never got around to doing the
GP.

:(

But you got that free Matchbox car! I bought it for Riverside myself,
but for racing in N3 not Legends. In Legends the car feels like it has
a restrictor plate at every track. The whole game really has an
arcadish look to it also with those winged cars and faded colors.

Papy was smart not to release a demo of this one or nobody would have
bought it, at least this way they found a few suckers like us.

I don't think I fall under the category of "fanatic" but I like it
better than N3. I think the reason most people will end up passing is
that Papy decided to compete with themselves. Putting 2 products on the
shelves relatively close to each other in time frame. $50 some dollars
for software is tough for some people, let alone 2 at that price. N3 was
much more hyped up, and anticipated, and in return was more of a
letdown. If -anyone- was suckered it wasn't the Legends owners, it was
the mass of people who bought N3. It's N2 with dressed up graphics, and
2 new adjustments. At least Legends actually has a different feel to the
car, and it does indeed have different engine sounds. Not sure what the
original poster was listening to. Perhaps he needs to play it more than
once. Talledega is hardly the same in N3 and Legends. The similarities
end at the track layout. You can't run full tilt the whole time or
you'll be in the pits every 15 laps or so, you HAVE to pay attention to
your setup AND driving to be competitive. You need true strategy now. In
N3, if you can draft, you can win. But these are just my opinions.

I find that I lap a whole lot quicker in NL at Alabama, than N3, and the rest
of the sim is a whole lot better. For instance, before in N3, I found the
road courses a chore to be endured. But in NL, Riverside is an absolute
hoot. Who can be bored with it. If you think you are going fast, it comes
back and bites you in the ass. In N3 Sears Point and The Glen are just
ribbons of grey to get around until the next venue. This  sim keeps you
thinking. Long live NL and any add ons!!!!!

I would have liked it...better integration too, would be able to have one
screen for both N3/NL online races...

What are you talking about?  Why would you want to return it?

No....it's not.  Try converting tracks like Riverside into both games...a
BIG difference.

OK, the stock sounds DO suck.  Get a soundpack.  The Pits has a GREAT one.

Modern NASCARS weigh less, but make less power at 'Dega - to the tune of
around 420-ish thanks to restrictor plates.  Also, the modern cars can go
much longer between stops.  Try going over 20 laps at Alabama in NL!!

I'm wondering if maybe it's got a 'Legends' stigma - people who thought GPL
sucked will equate it to NL and think it blows as well (though both are VERY
good games IMO!!!)

Yep.  Take it back to your reseller.

But, CompUSA doesn't take back software.

I've been through that catch-22 before.  Reminds me of this certain battle
between a certain hospital and a certain insurance company, with me inthe
middle.  More important things in life :)

Excuse me, but I HAVE played it more than once.  Many more times than once.

The sounds sound exactly the same to me.

Thank You.

Just curious Larry, what kind of sound setup do you have?
On my SB Live with 4 speakers, they sound very different to me.

Nothing special.

KLH speakers and a 100 watt Denon amp.

I just recently noticed that the spotter seems to be the same guy, too :)

Talk about long-running employment!

Clarification...

I don't think NL 'Sucks'.

I just think it's way too much like N3 to warrant another $45.

That's where my disappointment lies.

It should have been offered to N3 owners as a $20 add-on pack.

Nascar Racing 3 vs. Nascar Legends

by Beane » Sat, 01 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Larry I too thought it was too similar to N3,
but after racing it for a few hours I started to notice
that the cars do handle differently. I think to someone that
doesn't race the sim much they might not appreaciat the difference in the
way the tires and cars handle. for instance
with N3 at Dega I can get 30 to 35 laps on a set of tires
where as in NL I'm lucky to get 20 laps. Might not be a big deal to some,
but try running NL in a league race  :)
also drafting to me seems to be more important in NL.

now you want some differences in car handling get you a copy of GPL(Grand
Prix Legends).

I avoided this game when it came out because I'm not much of an open wheel
fan....what a mistake. I bought it ast nite
and can't stop racing it. I see what all the hype was about when everyone
was talking about when N3 came out and how it was supposed to be modeled
after GPL. we can only hope N4 uses the same dynamics and realism they used
in GPL. Gonna be a whole new learning curve for some :)))

Just my thoughts,
Beaner
