Nascar Legends in Windows XP / Nascar Heat Frontend

by istof » Sat, 21 Sep 2002 02:31:05

Hi,

Finally reinstalled after a loooong time.

Running in XP just returns to desktop.

Installed 1.204 patch.  same thing.

Does it work?

Tried compatibility mode for Win98, NT4 and Win 2000.

Changed Nl.ini to set software or direct3d mode, etc.

Any other ideas?

Also, is there a frontend for Nascar Heat which launches the different
mods for you?  I don't like having > 7 icons for one game :)

Thanks in advance.

Regards all,
istoff

NASCAR Legends runs fine for me with DX 8.1, GF3, AMD XP1800 CPU on an ASUS
A7M266 motherboard.

Whats your hardware?

I take the icons and place them in the start folder.  And then use the
start|settings|taskbar & start menu to group them all under one menu item.
So I press start, scroll up to a new folder I created called Mods, which has
two groups now, one for F1 2k1 mods and one for Heat mods.

You can find a mod launcher at texasspeedracing.com, nice tool, you
just point it to your data or run folder, and it finds the mods
automatically, you can swap tracks, and launch the mods.  Hope this
helps.

Can't get it to run on mine either. Shuttle AV18E, Celeron 950, GF2 MX440
AGP, 128MB (for now <G>), DX 8.1, latest security patches (except XP SP1).
Changed Rasterizer to 0, etc. Turned off indexing in folder, etc.

Heck, I'm a tech for a living and I can't figure it out.

800 duron + geforce2mx + dx 8.1 + detonator 40.41

will try it in win98. to doublecheck the media, but its an original so
i expect thats not the problem.

Hi,

I will certainly look at the mod launcher.  I don't think i want to go
the explorer route as with the rate of change on my machine it'll
never be in the same position twice.

If you remember Dave, I wrote a utility to swap out the patches before
MGI changed the executable to be mod-friendly.  its a bit buggy, but
it works.

thanks for all the help.  now i need to just figure out the
dishwasher.  had a party last night, and thought i'd clean up and
surprise the wife by doing the dishes.  i've installed the soap,
mofified the outlet hoses, reconfigured the installation to optimally
distribute the load inside, and switched the power on and the start
button.  still the f&*king machine won't start!!!!!!  oh well.
rec.kitchen.appliances.from.satan perhaps?

"istoff"
(of course I remember that.  It worked great, until the programmers patched
Heat so all that copying wasnn't necessary anymore.  Thanks again.)

.  still the f&*king machine won't start!!!!!!  oh well.
Don't ask me how I know this, but for the Kitchen device from Heck,
make sure the Door is fully closed and latched.  Some devices have a rotary
controller, you 'may' have to pull on it to engage the motor.  Good
luck...ps...If it works, blame it on the kids or else the Mrs might 'expect'
you fill it more often.

hehe,

forgot to open the tap.  because the outlet is shared between the
washing machine and the dishwasher, the tap is switched off for a
technical reason i wasn't born to understand...

Istoff, I got my NL working finally!!!!
Here's the ONLY way I can get it to work - trust me, I've tried a dozen
times...
Install NL with P2-400+ and Direct3D; full install, 16-bit sound.  THEN
REINSTALL with the middle speed setting (P200 to P2-400, IIRC), full
install, software rendering, 8-bit sounds. Then patch it. Works fine. For
ME.

'Course, I'm stuck with software rendering and 8-bit sound, but it WORKS!

Hi,

Thanks for the advice to install for software mode.  Worked for me.
Next step was to change renderer ingame to direct3d and recopy the hi
quality movie file off the cd.

worked like a charm.

nice to see the old cars again :)

Also been working on my mod launcher.  looks nice.  outlook style menu
down left and screenshot of mod in main window.  makes Heat mods a bit
more manageable for me.

i will release it if anybody wants it.
