Nascar 3 or Nascar Legends?

by reape » Thu, 16 Sep 1999 04:00:00

I've never played a Nascar Sim. But as it seems to me, now the time has
come. Any recommendations for what title to go?
N3 or Legends? I've done fairly well with GP2 and somewhat o.k. with GPL,
therefore I am not too afraid of difficult carhandling. But my main interest
would be in sheer driving fun. Racing in groups, not hotlapping (or trying
to hotlap) as in GPL. But the driving model should be good and the AI should
be exceptionally good.
After all: I'm german and have absolutely no idea of Nascar's history. Could
someone  help me with some basic information of the historical background of
Nascar Legends?
TIA -

        Doesn't matter what racing sim you have, N2, N3, N4, N5,... GPL1, GPL2,
GPL3..., NFS 1, 2, 3,..  Online racing will be online racing.  The only
time you will have clean races without the hot lappers is when you join
a racing league.  In pick up races, it'll be only after the hot lapers
and the first lap crashers have left that you'll have a clean race.

Well - o.k.. Thanks a lot for your statement. I don't want to offend you and
I really appreciate your advice. But in fact my question was: should I buy
N3 or Legends. And I'm not interested in online racing (at least not now).
Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Any recommendation?

Nascar 3 or Nascar Legends?

O.k.. Now I've found someone I can blame ;-).
I think I was just searching an excuse to post an order for N3 tomorrow.
Great!
Something else: I just took a look on the N3 and Legends screenshots on
www.papy.com. Were they really racing *dirttracks* in 1970? My goodness!
Those were really tough guys! Or had the cars immensely less bhp than
todays?
Thanks a lot -

I re-read your first post.  I did the same thing I did a few weeks ago
and started to shoot my mouth off before I read the whole thing.  I
didn't send that post out to flame but to correct a misconception.
either way,  I should have read the full post first,  sorry.

My opinion,  Buy the N3 and then buy the NL.  with luck, in a couple
months or less, someone will write a converter from NASCAR X to GPL.
Then there will be more road tracks for GPL. As far as close
competition, Ovals will have closer competition no mater if it's from N3
or NL or even oval track GPL.  There hasn't been as much information out
on the NL then there has about N3, so it's still too early to say which
will be best.  I'd only assume that the exact same AI would be used in
N3 and NL.  The only true differences would be the tracks used.  But
then again, I don't have enough info of either Sim to be any help ;-)
