Q: NASCAR 3 & NASCAR Legends: PC Upgrade?

I'm looking for some input for a new system on which I'll be
installing the newer Sierra racing sims (NASCAR 3 and NASCAR
Legends)...

  a) Sierra suggests a minimum processor speed of 166MHz (Pen-
tium), 32MB of RAM, an SVGA monitor with 64k video RAM,
and a Windows sound card.  Are any current budget systems
(Celeron, PII, or AMD K6-2 processors with 8MB video and
SoundBlaster audio) sufficient, or do I need more to get
the most out of this game?

  b) Recommended hardware includes a Pentium II processor, 64MB
of RAM, a Direct3D-supported graphic card, and an A3D 2.0
sound card.  Do any of the latest systems have or are com-
patible with the recommended graphics and sound require-
     ments?

  c) Would you recommend any particular model for use with the
N3 simulator, or am I better off having someone custom-
build a system for me?  I am currently considering the
latter, with one vendor having an AMD Athalon system
     (700Mhz with 200Mhz bus, 128MB PC-133 RAM, Diamond Viper-
770 32MB graphics accelerator, Yamaha Soundmax sound card,
Win98 second edition, and 17" monitor for under $2500).

   Thanks ahead of time.

I would get a 3dfx based card if you planning on playing mostly N3, NL, GPL.
I have Voodoo 3 and it works great. I have a Pentium II, HP 400 and it runs
all games just fine so anything you get above that will kick butt. I woud
recommend an Aureal 2? based sound card to get the most from N3 and NL,
check the website for what you need exactly, or someone else will post.
Don't scrimp on RAM, get all you can afford and then some.
