I was just curious how many of you out there (if any) are using the
OpenGL beta patch for GPL?

If so... what kind of results are you getting at different resolutions?
Ive found very little in respect to the patch other than there seems to
be some issues with the rear view mirrors?

Also... since this is a "Beta" from Papy, does anyone know if they are
still actually working on the patch or if this is as good as it is going
to get?

This will make a HUGE difference on whether or not I buy a V3500 TV in
June/July or a Diamond Viper TNT2 Ultra2.  The one limiting factor in my
decision is that the only "games" i run are N2 and GPL.   Thus my
Stealth II does the job but not very well at 800X600 in GPL.  Im leaning
towards the V3500 since I could use this card with both and its a bit
more of a proven commodity.  Both cards are fairly close in price.

The downside is that the TNT2 Ultra overall whoops the 3dfx card in
several areas.  (disclaimer - I am not a loyalist to any manufacturer or
API.  Whatever works best for me is what I get!)  I dont care if its
3dfx, The now deceased Rendition, or TNT2, or Savage4 or whatever.

Just for info... here is my current system:

"Husted PC" (As you can see its a "mutt" system that has been built upon
<G>"
Celeron 400 (6*75 = 450mhz)
Win95 "C"
AOpen AX6BC motherboard
96mb of non-pc100 SDRAM
SB 128 PCI soundcard
Altec Lansing Speakers
Diamond Stealth II S220 4mb Rendition Video Card
15inch Compaq Monitor
6 gig WD Hard Drive
Mitsumi 16X CD Rom
Telepath 33.6 modem (works great on TEN and joining VROC races) - stable

Gateway 2000 keyboard
LS120 SuperDisk Drive
3 1/4 inch floppy drive
MS Intellimouse
MS Sidewinder Joystick
Gravis gamepad
TM NPro wheel
32 bit flatbed color scanner
HP560C color inkjet

Thanks,

Tell ya what Scott...as I'm planning on getting an UltraTNT2 as soon as they
come out, I will let you know how it performs/works with the beta OpenGL
driver.  :)  Hey, if it works well I may just give away Voodoo2 cards to
friends. ;)

For only 19.99 a month for 48 months..

I take objection to that statement. Since October, rendition has hired over 80
people with plans to release a card (sometime I hope) which will blow all other
cards out of the water.

RENDITION RULES!!!!!!

  Scott:

I have tried the open gl patch with my Canopus TNT and my Leadtech TNT II with
the same results.  Not very good!!!  The video has tearing in it making it
unpleasant to the point I won't I don't use it.

I then bought a Voodoo 3 3000 and tried running GPL.  Oh god it sucks :(  The
colors are all screwed up beyond usage.  To be fair though, I did not reinstall GPL
so the Open GL patch is still there.  Unfortunately I can't find my GPL disk to
reinstall to give you any more information now.

No need to re-install GPL. Just right click on the Windows desktop,
pick "Properties", pick "Settings" tab, click on "Advanced", pick
"3dfx Tweaks" tab, select "Glide/OpenGL", check "Limit texture memory
to 2MB". Re-start GPL.

This is the quickest TEMPORARY fix.

Good luck,

I use it with a CL TNT.  It works fine, except that I have to slow down
the mirror refresh to get good frame rates, due to the TNT driver
non-optimization mentioned the the README.  Works even at 1600x1200,
but due to the mirror frame rate issue I stick to 800x600.  If you're
willing to play in arcade view where there are no mirrors, this problem
goes away.

Creative today announced a beta Glide wrapper for their TNT card.
According to their web page, it works with GPL but there are texture
corruption issues.  (Perhaps identical to the problem with the Voodoo
3 and thus likely to be fixed?)  I'll probably give it a shot tonight.

The release of Q3ATest has spurred the video card companies to release
updated OpenGL drivers, which might help.  Maybe 3Dfx or ATI will
improve their ICD to the point where OpenGL GPL is playable on more
than just nvidia hardware, and then we'll be able to know for sure
what's a Papy bug and what's a nvidia bug.

Papy needs broad 3D card support for N3 (just Voodoo and Rendition
didn't cut it last year, let alone this year) so I imagine they'll
keep working on their OpenGL rasterizer.  Whether and when they'll
release another version for GPL, only they know.  We're still waiting
for the 1.1 patch, after all.

Check to see if you've turned v-sync off somewhere - I was using PowerStrip
with my Leadtek TNT, and locking the sync to the refresh rate got rid of the
tearing for me.

Rendition is dead as proprietary graphics then.  Hows that?   There is no way
Rendition can regain lost ground to D3D, OpenGL and 3dfx (Glide).

Rendition blew it in those regards when Redline Died, or shall I say...   Micros
bought them.

Dont get me wrong... Im running the Rendition version of N2 and GPL and prefer
Rendition, but it has NO future as a 3D standard.
