Yeah, that seems a little low. Turn off specular lighting and sounds down to 4,
or try a lower resolution. I get almost 10 more with an 8 meg thriller.

I have got a Pentium II   450 with a banshee, and I would like to know what
FPS you have got with that kind of system?
At monza with everything on, 1024*768, Ive got about 20 FPS in the start
and then 25-30.
At monaco Ive got 12 FPS at the start.
Is this low numbers for my system?

I always get max frame rates [around 37] when there are NO cars on track,
for example in practice mode.

With ALL cars on race, and with MOST track objects displayed, the frame rate
can drop to 20 fps, at the start.

Should I get more with a Voodoo II?

36 by 2nd gear) That's what I get with a Cel 400 & 12meg voodoo2.

1024x768 is a real graphics pig, I've found. If 800x600 sounds low to
you, go run GP2 in SVGA (max res for that sim), then try GPL again &
realise how much better things are today :)

Voodoo2 won't be faster than banshee, it will'll be just a little slower
banshee has higher core clock speed )!

A Banshee in a P2-450 will maintain 36 fps (away from the grid) at 1024 x
768 with a full AI field with ease, as long as you have the proper
combination of graphics and sound settings.

Try 25% detail bias, 6 sounds, no "In Mirrors" features, and "Cars and
Track" mirror detail. Should produce a pleasing sim experience and the frame
rates you'd like. I've found that Detail Bias and Sounds (unless you have
one of the latest sound cards) are the two biggest drains on frame rate for
a given screen resolution.

Alternatively, sell the Banshee and get a Voodoo3 3000 and be in GPL heaven.

Rendition card cranks out 35+ FPS in almost any situation, anywhere, in

450 with a $100 Matrox Millenium 8MB G200 card struggles to get above 25 FPS
with the same options or less...

Of course there are 2.56 times as many pixels on a 1024 x 768 screen as
there are on a 640 x 480 screen. My guess is that you'd likely experience
substantially reduced frame rates at higher resolutions.

I find the visual difference between GPL at 640 vs. GPL at 1024 to be
dramatic.
