Okay race fans,

I'm planning a second PC at home, and want to make sure the new box is
sufficiently faster than the old box (PPro 200).  What kind of frame rates
will the AMD get versus a NON overclocked 300/333a or 333a?   I'm guessing
non-overclocked Celery isn't really worth it, correct?

The old box is very playable at higher detail, lower car-levels, and should
do nice for home-network games.  :^)

Budget won't allow more than this, but I would like to make sure it adds
enough ummpphh.

If you have a PPRO, a K6 won't be an upgrade for non-3d-now utilizing games.
My new PII350 (runnning at 360) is twice as fast as my old PPRO200 in GPL
with a V2 card. My PII 360 is also twice as fast as a K6-300 in GPL. (13.5
fps vs 6.5 fps at Monace, 19 AI opponents, all graphics on, full detail
bias, 5 sounds, at the back of the grid at start)

...K.S., just wanted to tell you that overclocking a 350 to 360 really isn't
worth the risk...I have even better framerates with my NON-overclocked 350
:)

I realize you're query was non-o/c, but here goes...
Celery 300A, running at 450, Banshee.... 1024x768, most grafx
on... 30FPS at the back of a 10 car grid at start..... 32FPS when
sitting in pits will all cars present.... 36FPS when racing
alone.  800x600, turn on whatever you want, 36FPS solid,
anywhere.

I've been an AMD fan in the past but it's history.

Thanks for the tip, however I find a linear increase (original
fps*(103/100))  in fps  in all cpu-limited games and the system is
rock-stable. (Actually I tried 112 mhz FSB, but the machine wouldn't even
post.)

I know I will probably be drowned out by the Overclocking happy Celeron
people........BUT, the BEST deal I have yet to see is this "Small??" known
fact of Intels own making.....they mistakingly over produced alot of
PII450's, and rather than flood the market and lower the prices, they marked
them as PII 300's to run on 66mhz boards. Well, when installed on a 100 mhz
board, they run in all the glory of a 450, without any risk of overheating,
any system freezes, or any painstaking taks of jumpers, increasing voltage,
raising clock speed, etc.
So for a $150 (more or less ) more than the CeleronA package, you can get a
full fledge PII 450. The key is in the numbers....make sure the PII is
marked as an SL2W8, as this is most common. There are a few others that
"could be" and for more info, visit http://www.tweak3d.com/
