LWFF repair question

by frederickso » Fri, 14 Feb 2003 15:52:48

If you are bored you can search through google and find that my LWFF has
been on life-support for the last 3 years or so. I cant afford a new wheel.
Before, when you turned the wheel all the way to the right, the motor or
cable or whatever it is would slip until you unwound the wheel again, and i
guess it'd catch itself. Now, the wheel has more "slop" than ever, and the
thing tends to slip whenever you make a quick correction in steering, or
when the force is too strong.  Is there anything I could tighten or jiggle
or anything that could reduce this problem without reassembling the cable?
(I did that once, it was hell.... and i think its what began these series of
problems to begin with)... thanks for any info

If the pulley on the motor and the steering shaft are still tight, I don't
see any way around trying to tighten up the cable asembly. Very hard to
diagnose and troubleshoot a wheel via text messages.

The nut under the little center cap could be loose. This gives it a sloppy
feeling. I had to jamb a piece of paper between the flat on the shaft and the
plastic of the wheel and then tighten the nut (but don't overtighten it) to get
rid of that in mine.

It's too bad you can't just get another one. The factory refurbished ones
are going for $49 now. You really can't beat this wheel for smoothness.
