LWFF Just got on, some questions one major problem!

Hey all!
Thanks to all that replied, I picked up my LWFF today.  (I got a nice
raise and bonus this month so I figured what the hell, also EB had it
so if I hated it I could return it, was $149 though)
Anyway, just did a quick test in N3, and it works fine, but the FF
seems a bit weak.  The real test will be GPL. :-)  Now, I had a setup
saved that someone posted here for the core.ini file, but must of
deleted it.  Could anyone post some numbers or their core.ini or a
link to get me started.
Now for the MAJOR problem, and for me its a biggie.  I also have an
FLCS/TQS/RCS setup for flight sims, which I enjoy as much as racing.
For some reason my FLCS/TQS/RCS combo is now showing NOT CONNECTED in
Win98. (non SE verion)  Even if I turn off the Wingman Profiler,
(actually close it) and remove both USB devices from the game
controllers (I also have a USB game pad) and set my FLCS/TQS/RCS as
device one, it still shows not connected.  I have a feeling the
Wingman software porked something.  Do I REALLY need this installed?
My FLCS/TQS/RCS has worked fine, with a joyswitch and my Nascar Pro up
until I installed the LWFF.  Any help on this problem would be GREATLY
appreciated.
PS.  My news server seems to be messing up.  Only got 16 msgs in ras
since yesterday, and one post didn't make it.  If you see this and can

If not I'll use deja news to check later this week.
Thanks,
Andy

Andy, you might want to try the discussion section at the Force-1 site,
there are a couple of guys from Logitech who regularly post to the group and
try to help out whenever they can.

Thanks Don, I posted a note there as well.  It is the Wingman Profiler
causing the problem for me, if I don't load it at startup. (using
msconfig) my FLCS/TQS/RCS is back to the connected status and working
fine.
Seems like a nice page as well, with lots of info!
Thanks,

Compared to GPL? Perhaps. However as you play N3 more,
I think you will find that the FF is very appropriate. After all
Nascar cars have power steering! I find the FF in N3 to be
among the very best. I can definately feel with the fronts lose
grip and the wheel gets loose in the turns. The bumps and grinds
are perfect IMHO. In CPR with you hit the wall (even slightly) you
basicly go uncontrolled to the other side of the track. In N3 you
feel the bump and our wheel yanks around but you still keep
going. Pretty realistic IMHO. You can also feel when you barely
touch one of your good ole buddies in the trunk lid. Without FF
you just crash into the rear end.

I think people are expecting massive forces and this is not
realistic or nessessary. I also think the FF in the grass is pretty
cool too.

I have a F22/TQS/RCS. I uninstall it from the control panel joystick applet
and
manually put the Logitech FF on ID#1. I have my TM rig hooked up to a
joyswitch too and it works fine.

Greg, would you mind posting the FF settings you're using for N3--both the
n3.ini settings and the Profiler settings?   I have pretty good response
when bumping another car, but feel almost nothing over grass, when hitting
the wall, or when a tire blows.  Thanks.

Same here!  I agree with Greg that the FF seems realistic with turns.
(I still would expect more force on the wheel going 200 at Dega, but
since I've never went 200 in real life, I have no clue. <G>)
I feel nothing when I hit the wall, or go over grass though.  (even if
I slam the wall)
My times seem to have gotten worse, but I'm assuming that is because I
have to learn the feel of the new wheel.

Yeah, I agree with this.  I get no FF in the grass or when I hit a
wall though.  (you using a LWFF, or another brand?)
Also, what do you or most others set the "settings" (or strengths to)
via the options menu.  (ie  "overall effects strength",  spring
effects strength,  centering spring)  I've left mine at the default
100% for now, but I think they go up to 150%.  I did enable the center
spring option which I think was off by default.

Well if I load the Profiler at startup, I can't get my FLCS/TQS/RCS to
work at all.  (always shows not connected, no matter what ID its on. )
From what I can tell, I don't think I need the Proflier stuff anyway,
most games allow you to set the buttons anyway, so I can't see a need
for it?  (am I missing something real obvious here??)
I can still load the profiler from the start menu, and it won't mess
up my FLCS setup, even though it pushes it to ID2.  Tell me that makes
sense.  (I doubt it would work in a game on ID2 anyway, but I can do
as you said, and remove the LWFF from ID1 and move the FLCS setup
there)

I haven't even looked at n3.ini so I assume it is the default. As for the
LWFF settings... The over-all is 130%, dampening is 130% and spring
is 100%.

The wall is a huge impact and the wheel moved acordingly. In other
words when you slam the wall the wheel really jerks. If you slightly hit
the wall, you may just barely feel it. The grass is always very bumpy.

The stock setups in N3 are *MUCH* looser than with N2 or N99. So that
could be it.

LWFF. Something is wrong if you do not feel this stuff.
Set over all strangth to 130% along with dampening.
Set spring rate to 100%. Make sure the spring center
for FF games is *NOT* selected. Also I am using combined
axis.

Strange I always had my TM rig working. It did not matter in the
profiler was running or not. I always make sure I manually put my
input device (wheel, TM stuff or Gravis GamePad Pro) on ID#1.

That will always work as far as I know. SCGT used to work with the wheel
on ID #2. Then patch 1.5 came out and it would only work with the wheel
on ID#1. So I started manually moving my control device to ID#1. It is
kind of a pain but it works.

OK, thanks.  Maybe I have my settings too high, then.  I'll try reducing
them.

Make sure you turn off the "spring center" for FF games. That setting
could totally***everything up!

Jerry,
I've noticed a few things.  The force settings in the N3.ini, don't
seem to do anything no matter what value they are set at.  You (or at
least I) can remove the FF specific lines completely, save the file,
and run N3 and get the same amount of FF. (I was messing with
different values last night, and then saw Greg's reply that seemed to
indicate he never even added the lines.  So I tried removing them
completely.)
I've also noticed that sometimes I get NO FF in N3, however I think
this has to do with me not loading the profiler at startup.  (I will
confirm this today)  If I load the profiler and run a "test" then
enter N3 all is fine.
Just some thoughts.

Greg,
Thanks for the info on the settings.  I did have the spring center
option enabled, that might of been messing me up.
Also, I've noticed that sometimes I get no FF in N3.  This might be
because I am not loading the profiler at startup.  If I load the
"Wingman Test"  utility run a test then enter N3 all is fine.

Well DX7 is out today, and I read awhile ago they promised "enhanced
game controller features"  or something to that effect.  So maybe they
have added some new features to make it a little easier to swap the
ID#.   (Be nice to be able to pick from the game what ID or joystick
you want to use)
Anyway, thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

LWFF Just got on, some questions one major problem!

by J » Sat, 25 Sep 1999 04:00:00

Andy,

I had the same problems with my setup (USB-logi and gameport-joystick)
It seems to be essential to have the logi at ID#2, the other
controller in ID#1
Also you should try to reinstall win98 to renew a changed
whatsoever-file.
Next advice is to install  (control panel/add hardware/ non pnp/)
microsoft gamedevice.

I cannot tell you what the significant step is, but after that
treatment my combo is running absolutely smooth.

Hope this helps

Jens
